Tbh I think defensive ratings for shortstops in this game are dumb. Baez isn't a 99 fielder, neither is Lindor tbh. No way cover boy should be 94 speed and he's literally the worst defender in baseball this year.
Actually Tatis's speed is pretty accurate. Same for Trevor, he's slowed down a bit this season so far.
Put Tatis in a foot race with Acuña and then tell me he deserves 5 higher speed.
Baseball Savant sprint speed bro.
Which literally for both this year and last year places him behind Acuña.
Also that doesn't explain the jump from 88 last year for Tatis to 94 this year. His sprint speed hasnt gone up, its actually gone down by .2. They just gotta boost the cover boy and bonus that its a player for SAN DIEGO. Just wish they'd update everything, not just the cover boy.
Acuña is still listed as a CF.
Ahhhh thats a good point. Dude who knows how they rate these attributes lol. I really wish they'd release the algorithm they use, but I also imagine if they did that we would have a lot of incorrect attributes for players.

Defensive statistics are still in their infancy in being able to successfully gauge players, especially those that end up playing multiple positions.
(I keep going back to Acuña for my examples because I'm a Braves fan, but im sure theres examples everywhere.)
Acuña grades much better as a corner OF playing primarily in right with his cannon arm, prior to this year he played a lot of innings in CF because we needed him to. This year we added Pache to the roster and he's been touted as mini-Andruw, so Ronald finds his home in RF.
SDS still lists him as CF, Pache is in right when you play the Braves CPU.
Acuña has hit in the lead off spot since early 2019.
He hits 3rd or 4th when you play vs the Braves CPU.
Like its just basic stuff that bother me like that. I know most line ups are kinda fluid but the dude literally leads baseball in lead off HR's over the last 3 years.

He consistently gets 15-20 steals in full seasons (I know steals are not the best way to determine speed). His speed is the same or less than some catchers and first basemen who steal >5 bags a year

Soto also was brutally disrespected with speed and defense. They just did not want him to be higher overall without compromising hitting stats.

They go by defensive metrics and it looks like story was great in 2019, but otherwise he's been more good than great defensively. They're slow to update defensive attributes but if he's fielding really well after a few months maybe he'll be upgraded

While we are at it why if Freeman silver fielding? The only reason I can guess is so people dont play him at 3rd more.

Yeah I know, but the consistency still is not there. Trout and Ohtani have higher sprint speeds than Buxton and Tatis, but much slower in game. Plus it does not translate in game. You can't steal with guys that slow.
