Are PS5 trophies supposed to sync from PS4 version?

I recently got a ps5 so I just downloaded the ps5 version of the game and even though I got platinum on the ps4 version, none of my trophies are syncing with the ps5 version of the game. Is this a bug or are they separate games/would we have to complete trophies again? Not a big deal for me but would appreciate it if someone could clear this up.
