M2O: A Slapped Together Game Mode with Alternative Motives
-
March to October is a half-baked game mode designed for no other purpose than to push people towards Diamond Dynasty. While playing the sub-par at best game mode I ran into: bad roster logic, a terrible conclusion to the end of the regular season and nerfed players during the playoffs. My experience ultimately proved to me that SDS is more interested in baiting its community towards Diamond Dynasty so that they do not have to focus on non-profit generating game modes (ie: Franchise, Online Franchise (which we do not have) and Custom Seasons (which you can't play a season with friends against the computer...).
Off-the bat you select your difficulty and they make it very clear that they game mode offers DD rewards, and the level of rewards is based on your difficulty. The use of DD rewards shows the community exactly what SDS wants us to do post M2O -- play DD. Fine, I selected my difficulty.
I selected the Mets. When asked for potential trade options (since you can't make trades on your own) I picked the outfield since I wanted to replace Nimmo. Months go buy and I reject a few bad trades. At the trade deadline, the Sox off Eloy Jimenez who is an 85 overall. I figured "Sweet, I'll move Conforto to CF, and now I have a decent OF with incredible bats." Well, I made the trade and here's the problem: Eloy was sent down to the minors. No big deal, right...I run the [censored] team, I'll just call him up. I couldn't...because not only can you not make your own trades in the game, you cannot select who to call-up. I would really like to thank SDS though for creating the game logic that kept Eloy (85ovr) in the minor while being asked if I wanted to call up a SS...when I have Lindor. SDS for the win on that.
Despite SDS wizardry with game design, I still won 120+ games in the regular season. I should be raring to go for the playoffs. Well, I did play the second to last game of the season. I started out down by a couple of runs in the 6th and I lost. As a result the on-fire momentum I had for ALL 162 GAME went cold to start the playoffs.
Once I made it to the playoffs, bat were replaced with sponges and the shoe laces of my fielders were tied. Errors and blunders that I could not control started to occur, good and perfect timed hits were hit directly to fielders. But why? Why all of sudden did my team tank? Oh yeah...the tie-in to Diamond Dynasty. SDS wants to do what they can to reduce rewards, and it worked.
That is my experience with this poor attempt a game design. It's frustrating because I know the game mode was created as a tie-in to DD. As a result the game mode is missing features that are crucial to managing a team, and the only logical explanation for limiting roster control is A. Bad designed (which it is) and/or B. Wanting to prevent "cheating", because heaven forbid we earn DD rewards in another game mode.
What is most upsetting about the experience is know that the game mode is bait for DD while other game modes that can stand on their own have been watered down or completely eliminated.

I didnt read it all but I have to laugh at saying that SDS is limiting rewards for playing. You get more affinity points this year than you did last year. This mode is playing as designed and doesn't play that badly. I did a run with the jays and barely made the playoffs before whitewashing the entire playoff pool and winning the world series without losing a game. I certainly haven't had the same experience as you but sometimes things feel almost rigged. The ai is awful in this mode though, I can certainly agree with that

Its not SDS fault you don't know Eloy Jimenez is injured and you traded for him in a 1 season mode or that you didn't understand the mode going in. Most of what your complaining about is exactly how the mode is supposed to play and was gone over in their streams

I understand the game mode, I played it last year and have been playing TS since 2010 — I’ll trust my opinion and ability to express it. I should be able to, at the very least, call up and send down players as I see fit. Its on SDS for not allowing that to occur. And if Eloys injury is the issue, then why did I have Noah Syndergaard pitching for me at the start of the season when he’s eyeing a June return post Tommy John surgery?
We disagree, which is fine. The game mode and it’s design offered up several moments of frustration. I’ll express my thoughts as I see fit. Thank you for your input.

The Noah Syndergaard thing must've been an oversight on their part, last year when I played MTO he was in the minors because of his injury. You're completely free to have any opinion you want on the mode and to post it here, that's exactly what forums are for. I completely agree that we SHOULD be able to make call ups/send downs anytime we want my only point was that going into the mode that's something you should've been aware of.

I was and am aware of the call-up/send-down situation. I expected SDS to have better roster logic considering the fact that we cannot control call-ups and send-downs. There is no excuse for it.
This has nothing to do with knowledge nor lack-there-of. This has to do with SDS creating a shotty, half-baked game mode that was designed specifically to rope people into DD. The lack of player control is either a result of laziness or wanting to control what the player does, because the game mode is tied into the financially-beneficial game mode for SDS.
Aside from the lack of roster logic, and limited control over the team that the player is managing, there is the post season experience where errors, and defensive decisions were out of my control and the momentum system that turned cold after winning 125 games in the regular season.
You keep going after the same concept -- a lack of knowledge on my part. I watch the streams, I am on the forums and have played the game for over a decade. Knowledge is not the issue, game mode design is. I'll take the L in M2O -- that's life. SDS takes the L for design and implementation. It's a bad game mode that was added while replaced other modes that players enjoyed.

What other modes did they remove that people played a lot of? March to October was played a lot last year according to their numbers and if the game was working properly it'll be played this year too. If you want full control, play franchise. You say you have full knowledge of the mode yet play it and then complain about things when you know how they work? That makes no sense.
If you don't like the mode, that's fine but they built the mode a specific way they wanted it to play so don't say it's a slapped together mode because you think there should be different things in it.
Of course it's a way for SDS to get people to play dd, that's their bread and butter and where they make money, why wouldn't thwy tie it in there but you don't have to play dd to use it. I don't mind the mode, it's lacking some ability to control yes but it's not a bad mode in my opinion.
