Why is impossible to foul off with good timing?

Has anyone noticed that when the ball is in the outer PCI with good timing, it’s always a swing and miss? You can’t foul it off to stay alive. Idk if this is supposed to simulate a caught foul tip or what.

I once swung and missed with good timing and perfect PCI placement last year. Hitting just isn't based on real physics. It's all rng.
