How do you tag only the 3rd base runner?

I can’t figure out how to tag the guy on third and NOT the guy in 2nd too!

Use your left stick to select him, and then press X to send just that dude home.

AHHHH...I have been using the L stick to select him and hitting L2 to Tag via the instructions in the screen.....
