Did we just get a "bro" and a "bruh" on a chat forum in 2020? What is next, "syyyyke!"?
Brah what are you going on about.
Oh no not the "brah".
You afraid of brah's dawg?
No just old slang words. I like modern tech and words.
I don’t know...I think “bro” is timeless....
But anyway, what worse? An old dude using old slang or an old dude using new slang?
IDK what is worse. I just cannot stand hearing young dudes throwing around "bruh brah bro" or whatever variation. I dont really hear old dudes or people that spent a couple years in school or have any self respect using those words.
I don't really use that kind of slang in-person, but I've definitely used bro when typing online and I don't think it really matters all that much, people can talk one way and still have "self-respect", using a word or slang like it has almost no bearing on a persons intelligence or stature
It does. It is kinda out of context to explain here, but it does. Obviously there are ways you can use it that dont sound bad, but like I said. hard to put into context here.
Nope, it doesn't. Sorry but that of thinking is just plain misguided at best. YOU may define self-respect in terms of language used, but very few people probably care if they have earned your version of self-respect.
Actually self respect was me being kind. It is actually very disrespectful to others when you use those words in most cases. Like I said, context, which is too much to go into detail here. but if you dont know how then that is the problem.
I added onto my statement.
"You mad bro" is really more of a meme, it's not even meant to take seriously
Yes, but I am not talking about that phrase, havent heard it in quite a while actually. Like I said numerous times, too much to go into context about. But just like calling another man "boy" there are times where it fits and times where it doesnt and is disrespectful. And usually only low educated ot disrespectful people use it that ay.
You clearly are talking about that phrase
Did you not say in this thread, "Did we just get a "bro" and a "bruh" on a chat forum in 2020? What is next, "syyyyke!"?
and the only Bro before that was "You mad bro"
So either you were railing about a context that was never used, or you were talking about it.
I didnt notice the you mad part, sorry. Then the next guy said "bruh". You are digging way too much into something we were having fun with. I have no idea why. We were talking about out dated terms.
Sorry, I don't mean to be hard-headed, but I find elitist grammatical personalities annoying and if you are going to rail on about a context, next time maybe make sure it's used in the context you are referring to.

That's not poking fun, that's not joking, that is basically talking about people who use it have no self-respect, of which there were two people who used it in this thread, so basically that's you telling them they have no disresepect.
Sorry, but using the explanation just joking around doesn't work,

If this is something you or someone else has a problem with then fine, and great for you at getting over it. But I also have a problem with certain things but it is my responsibility to get better at it. Not making the World change around me. If someone says something I dont like or disagree with it would be better for me to evolve into someone that handles in a way without getting offended by it. And better learn why they would do or say such a thing. But guys joking around about something that has nothing to do with me is a conversation I, as human being, would be better off staying away from.

We were talking about old words like bro and bruh and such. Was poking fun at people still using them seriously today. Anything more than that is on you man. Wasnt anything grammatical about it.
Nothing grammatical about it?
So you didn't say "And usually only low educated ot disrespectful people use it that way."
"Like I said, context, which is too much to go into detail here. but if you dont know how then that is the problem."
Or especially this phrases before I even brought it up "I dont really hear old dudes or people that spent a couple years in school or have any self respect using those words."
That's not poking fun, that's not joking, that is basically talking about people who use it have no self-respect, of which there were two people who used it in this thread, so basically that's you telling them they have no disresepect.
Sorry, but using the explanation just joking around doesn't work,
This was all in response to you though about a hypothetical scenario. The people that I was talking too early in the thread, and the people using those words were joking around. 2 completely different scenarios and 2 completely different CONTECT which I tried to explain a million times earlier/
No, it wasn't all in response to me, the last one wasn't, which is why I highlighted it.
It's not even about the language itself, it's the saying no one with self-respect would use that language. Telling people they have no self-respect is not funny or haha kind of talk, that talk can damage people even if they don't say anything about it. I know because it would have probably would have hurt me a few years ago when I struggled with self-confidence.
That is what I have a problem with.
You have a problem with some random anonymous internet poster? And the topic at hand isn't even remotely important or serious.

But like him, I guess you could say I also care a bit about how people use words. Specifically, words designed to tear other people down. If he wants to do that, that's his right, I'm not his mother. I was just letting him know how that kind of talk can affect people.
Just because that kind of talk is joking to you, doesn't mean it's not serious.

I really dont understand how you mean "tear someone down" though. I simply said "I dont really hear", A: older people, and I dont, sorry just dont, probably 50+. B: Educated people, people that have developed vocabulary use words that better get their point across. And self respecting people, this one is more to my vision of the types I hear using these words seriously over and over in real life. Usually some younger, stoner type dude, probably smells of Doritos and shaggy dirty hair. That probably doesnt work that hard at anything much less life lol.
Now that is obviously just a general stereo type and nothing against young guys, or stoners, or dorito eaters or shaggy haired guys. But that is just an image of someone that pops in my head when I think of guys that talk like that.

Because the way it's phrased conveys the thought that anyone who uses those words have no self-respect.
And even if you were talking about it in another context, within the sentence, you yourself didn't leave any context so it just reads as anyone who uses it.
Now that may have not been intentional, it's very easy to lose context when typing, but that is how it reads.
So therefore, someone who only uses it jokingly with his friends could read that, and if he has low-self esteem etc, that kind of talk can hurt

You have a problem with some random anonymous internet poster? And the topic at hand isn't even remotely important or serious.
First of all, I don't have a problem with him significantly as in some personal grudge.
But like him, I guess you could say I also care a bit about how people use words. Specifically, words designed to tear other people down. If he wants to do that, that's his right, I'm not his mother. I was just letting him know how that kind of talk can affect people.
Sorry man, I cant control that though. Would be stupid to change the way you think or the way you are to try and not hurt someones feelings. Aint gonna happen. just got to pray for them to be stronger. We all been there. I still deal with some major anxiety, but I would never present what those struggles are to the rest of the World. i just have to get better.

If you don't want to control your words or have to think about how someone may read them, that is your right, but presenting the idea that it is out of your control is false.
Sorry about the anxiety, I definitely still struggle with that today, it's not easy to beat.

Sorry man, I cant control that though. Would be stupid to change the way you think or the way you are to try and not hurt someones feelings. Aint gonna happen. just got to pray for them to be stronger. With all been their. I still deal with some major anxiety, but I would never present what those struggles are to the rest of the World. i just have to get better.
You CAN control it though, you typed those words.
If you don't want to control your words or have to think about how someone may read them, that is your right, but presenting the idea that it is out of your control is false.
Sorry about the anxiety, I definitely still struggle with that today, it's not easy to beat.
No, I can control what I type and what I say, I cannot control how people think about it. It is their right to feel how they want whether they control that or not. It isnt my responsibility to worry what each individually personality out there struggles with. Nor is it theirs to worry about me.
No, it's not your responsibility. You are well within your rights to tear people down and use damaging language like I said.
And you are well within your right to be 1 out of , however many people read what I said and be offended by it. While the majority isnt. Listen, there are tons of things that we do that catch someone in a bad way because we have no idea what they deal with or been through. It will happen to me, I will do it to others and that is life. All we can do is be strong and learn and grow.
An example. My GF sister wanted to watch a movie with us a while back. So we got some dinner and watched a movie while eating at the house. A really [censored] gory part came on and she freaked out. Didnt even want to eat. Me and my GF were just laughing and eating like nothing. Obviously something was going on different in her mind that we could not and probably never will be able to understand. To us it was just a movie, fake, entertainment. But she will probably never understand that part of the way we thought. IDK man. I feel you are pretty young and hope you get emotionally stronger as you grow. I know at 20 I was quiet frankly WEAK emotionally. I didnt think so then but 20 years later oh man do I realize it. I wanted to fight people all the time for stupid reasons, I yelled about the most trivial things. it was awful. All we can do is age and grow and become stronger.

I do not believe in the final sentence of the first paragraph.
"Ill we can do is be strong and learn and grow."
I think we can be considerate of others and think about how our words can affect people.
That's fine if you don't want to, I'm youngish, but a few years older then 20, and I hope when I'm 40, I'm still considerate about how I use my words.

Wait a minute....You’re 40 years old, Chuck, and you’re berating people on the Internet for the “slang” they use?
Wow. That’s funny. I thought you were a teen. Seriously.
Eatyum showed you how and why you were misguided in your comments but you kept digging your hole deeper and deeper.
Eatyum told you that you can’t determine the level of “self-respect” or education level of someone by the slang or meme phrases they use on the Internet.
In this case, he was right! I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in History and have earned two graduate degrees, including a Master’s. That’s pretty well educated. Wouldn’t you agree?
When Eatyum pointed out how wrong you were, you said you were right and that it was about “context.” You said it was too much to go into detail here, then spent numerous other posts and walls of text to explain further why you were wrong. So no, it wasn’t too much detail to go into, it was the lack of of a substantial argument that prevented further explanation.
There are three main things about this whole thread that I find hilariously ironic.
-
You are denigrating people for their grammar, yet your posts contain several grammatical errors.
-
You said, “If someone says something I dont (grammatical error in original) like...it would be better for me [to not] get offend[ed] by it...But guys joking around about something that has nothing to do with me is a conversation I, as a human being, would be better off staying away from.”
Uh....are you serious? That’s EXACTLY what you did NOT do when you commented on “bro” and “bruh.”
- You’re 40, telling Eatyum, who is in his early 20’s, that he needs to mature and learn the ways of the world when, clearly, he has a much more broad, thoughtful, considerate, and mature worldview than you.
Sorry, Chuck. I’ve seen you post many times on this forum and never took issue with anything you’ve said before. I still don’t have a problem with you.
But in this situation, you took the ‘L’...........bro.
