No he won't, I don't think he threw over 100mph consistently to justify it.

Mariano never threw 97 so who knows what they’d do to juice a Verlander card. He would probably be a worse Pearson without outlier

Fair point, but I think Verlander would be good enough to use without Outlier. They don't wanna break the card where it becomes a crutch pitcher to have, like the new Kluber or last year's Kershaw.
Giving Outlier to guys like Chapman or Crochet, who throw 100+ seemingly effortless makes sense. But to give it to someone who achieved it only once or twice would be similar to giving 99 Roberto Alomar 125 power if he happened to hit it 500 ft once in his career.

I completely agree, they shouldn’t start to water down the outlier guys just cause we’re near the end of the content cycle. That being said, I fully expect a cutter or sinker 5th pitch to make the card more “meta” even if he’s been a heavy 4 pitch guy all along.

Agreed, I think he will have the cutter. If I recall correctly, his 99 threw a cutter last year as well.

Verlander threw over a 100 mph quite a bit with the tigers but I agree it might be overkill. If he doesn’t get a cutter without outlier though then his 99 will be trash

Either way I hope he’s more effective online than he has been the last couple of years.

One of the times I have to disagree with you. As Verlander learned to pitch rather than throw he would throw 85% early during the game and save his 100+ mph stuff for late in the game. He could throw gas anytime he wanted but learned to get guys out on his stuff then bring the heat late in the game. You can’t argue with an old timer who knows the game LOL

No. With 99 velocity on his FB and no outlier he will still hit 100 and occasionally 101.

I’d be happy with that and an accurate representation of jv in his tigers prime. Pearson has outlier and he averages 97 with his fastball so far in the big leagues but I know he has hit 104 before in college so I can understand guys like him getting outlier while verlander wouldn’t get it. Verlander has hit 102 and it would be awesome to get a verlander that wasn’t bp

Fair points. I'm still confident he won't have outlier, which was the real topic of the debate.

We don't technically, but there usually is every single year so we assume this year will be no different.

Fair enough but he should be able to hit 100+ because he could do that for quite a few years with the Tigers

And he will, because his card will say 98mph 4seamer so will be able to touch 100/101 just like in previous years.

You’re crazy. Verlander threw over 100 late in to games for years.

Lol you know what pizzes me off. When I started playing DD in 16 I only knew how to pitch with “Classic” All these guys were saying how so and so was a great pitcher and I was getting lit up with all of them. Learned to pitch with analog and what a difference we’ll except for this year maybe lol

I liked SS Verlander last year, even without outlier. For SS cards, they've been copy/pasting attributes from 19 over into 20, who knows if they make him an Awards card though.
