How much of a liability is Jimmy Foxx at catcher?
-
I’m thinking of picking him up but he would have to play catcher & that 55 blocking is scaring me from doing it. How bad is it those who have used him there? I’m not worried about the throwing, Just keeping the ball from going to the backstop a ton.
-
If you're smart, you always put an elite defensive catcher on your bench for whenever you run into those speed cheesers. Other than that, he's fine.
-
He's been pretty good, Piazza gave me more problems and he has 30+ blocking and a silver badge more than Foxx, go figure.
-
Probably want to have a good backup catcher with enough defense on your bench like Biggio, Wieters, etc.
I run an all 90 and above speed team and I if I see Foxx is catching, I'm stealing like crazy. People end up having to sidestep so much with their pitchers, they end up giving meatballs for easy home runs.
Just be prepared and have a backup on the bench.

his hitting makes up for it. Like a poster said i keep pudge on the bench for cheesers or late inning tight games. then I just slide him to 1st to replace babe.
-
I couldn't keep him back there, let's to many balls in the dirt by him, but I've been spoiled using Pudge. He's probably on par with someone like Biggio behind there
-
Ive had no issues with him at catcher, ive kept posey on the bench as a back up but ive never had to bring him in for D. Not many padt balls.. but it depends, if you throw a lot in the dirt than i can see there being an issue.
-
I haven't really had any issues at all .... so far. Well worth the pick up and see what you think. I'd say he definitely isn't a massive liability.
-
A big one
-
not an issue with Pass Balls but his arm is weak easy to steal off of.
-
ALWAYS carry a solid defensive (single-digit speed) catcher on the bench after the first two times through the order. Planning on getting Foxx this weekend.
-
Blocking stat doesn't really matter unfortunately. His arm is ok, better than Piazzas. If you start anyone with a sub 85 arm str you should have an elite arm on your bench in case you run into base running cheese or its a close game and someone gets a speedster on

Truthfully I've thrown out more runners with Foxx than I did with Torre and Posey. I think maybe because people figure it'll be easy so they don't bother to try and get jumps, or work it to go on off speed counts.

I got thrown out at 2nd by foxx when stealing with Wagner when the guy quick pitched lol, I’m not worried about his arm. It’s just the past balls that I’m worried about. I don’t throw worm burners but I will throw low out of the zone changups & curves that I don’t want being beaten out to 1st.
-
I haven't had an issue yet, but I do pitch more conservatively with runners on.
-
No issues, I don’t care if people steal, I’ll eventually catch them.
-
He can't block anything he lets a lot by and drops a lot of 3rd strikes. Very shaky, I notice it several times a game. I keep pudge on the bench for late innings.
-
i dont use him. Sold him quick. But i can tell you I love seeing him behind the plate vs my opponent. You can steal with anybody on him and if you pitch a lot in the dirt your in trouble. I even seen him drop a slider running away, was like his arm could not stretch that far lol
-
If you don't try to really bury pitches in the dirt he's okay. My only issue was he's slow to the ball sometimes whether it's a tapper in front or dirt ball. As a secondary penalty they don't always get the good animations.

Speaking 9th inning bosses, how is Honus at 2nd? I remember last year's Honus card had silver fielding (the shield) at second base.
