You make valid points and I’m sure in years to come there will be fair conversations about it. I said at the beginning of the season that it would count. There’s a thread about it. To counter your example, I would give four reasons to say it counts...

Most players opted into the season. So, you did have the best players playing.

Both of the teams in the World Series were not long shots and would have been legitimate contenders in any season. The dodgers would have been the favorite.

Its clear that this is real to the players. Watching the interviews of the teams after elimination, it is clear that it mattered to them.
Obviously, it matters to the guys still playing. -
You could argue that it was harder to win this year than any other year. They added an extra round. There were no days off. You never got to sleep in your own bed.
If the dodgers lose again I will be just as heartbroken if there were another 100 games played in the season.
Again, I think it’s a fair argument. But I’m in the it counts and I would have said the same thing if the Astros had beaten the giants.

Roberts is managing this game as if he’s content to be tied 1-1. Hasn’t used any of his high leverage guys yet. Hopefully the dodgers will score some runs and force his hand.

I think the empty stadiums really made a better home field advantage then with fans. Just look at the top teams big difference in home and away records. It is more of an intimate feel. Kinda like going to someones house you dont know and it is just you and them. But if they are throwing a gig of some sort and a whole lot of people are there and you go it doesnt feel as strange. I know the Astros really struggled with that this year, they would have been much better off with fans yelling and screaming. It does give you energy.

No minor league season, DH in both leagues, putting a runner on second in extra innings, expanded rosters, etc. I don't think it should be an asterisk though saying that this world series is any less worthy than other teams in a normal season. The oddness of this particular season should be recognized though, I can agree with that. I suppose from there everyone will form an opinion on whether that diminishes a world series championship or not. Personally, I don't think it does. You could argue that it was tougher winning a world series this year than it has been other years.

TBH, if I were you, I would be rooting for the Rays. You would want to know that you lost to the WS champions, therefore they were good. -

I'll give you that 60 games isn't the typical grind that 162 is, no arguing that at all. Although 60 games with so few days off like they had this season is a grind in it of itself. Plus, a lot of these teams had to play a lot of doubleheaders. Granted, only 7 inning double headers but a lot of teams had to play a lot of doubleheaders throughout the season with pretty much zero days off.
With empty stadiums there isn't as much pressure, also true. There still is the pressure of trying to win a baseball game as a competitor though. Road teams would typically be the ones to feel that pressure, but at the same time there was no home crowd to pump up the home team.
I'm not necessarily saying these season was tougher, but I am saying this season had unique challenges that the typical season doesn't have. The 60 game season also didn't allow for teams to go through any real down stretches where they slump and have a loosing streak. Look at Washington last year. If last season was 60 games they wouldn't have even made the playoffs possibly. They got better and better as the season went on and ended up winning the world series. 60 games also rewards a team for a hot start where they may have struggled over the second half of 162 and not made the playoffs so I get that there are both sides to it. I'm not sure if this season was more difficult or less difficult, but I do think this season was very unique with it's own set of challenges that all teams had to work through.

I can agree with this. Another thing to think about is the difficulties that come along with the no days off in the playoffs. The Nationals from last year probably don’t win the World Series without off days since they couldn’t just keep running out scherzer and Strasburg every day. That’s not a bitter dodger fan thing. The Nats won it and deserve to be champs. I just think the no days off makes it harder, because you have to rely on more players.

I don't think the Dodgers were expecting two opposite field home runs from Brandon Lowe, at least not at this point in the postseason.

Very true, and another good point. No days off in the playoffs is an extreme grind. In addition to no days off this year, you also had an extra round or whatever it was with the additional teams making the playoffs this year. It definitely tests a teams entire roster and especially a pitching staff. I know my Padres were hurt by this. With their top two starters out they just didn't have the pitching depth to hang with the Dodgers.
