Stealing bases
-
I feel like this is some secret society like the Skulls or something. I am an absolute failure at stealing bases. I’d say I’ve been thrown out over 100 times this year. Is anyone willing to me the secret??

Know who is behind the plate, if it's someone like Pudge, I rarely run.
Study your opponent's tendencies with fast runners on base. If you run as soon as you get a fast guy on, you don't get the opportunity to understand what your opponent thinks. See how he responds and then use the knowledge accordingly in key situations.

Meanwhile, guys run wild on me. Guys that shouldn’t even be stealing.

Bro this was Epic!!! The Skulls be stealing bases all day man. I wanna get into it myself, but my guys are all slow AF. I I stole one base and I didn't even get a Brietling watch!

When I want to steal I just tap L2 once & then put it in the hands of the RNG gods that he gets a good jump. I don’t get a lead & I only steal with guys that have a high steal rating. I’d say I’m successful 75% of the time.
-
Yeah I don't get stealing either. I can't seem to do it when any success. It's the little things that make no sense either. I stole yesterday with fof Eric Davis on a 2-0 count. The pitcher threw a curve and he was still out by a mile. I'm obviously doing something wrong so I just don't even bother unless I'm trying to hit and run.

One other thing I do that I forgot to mention is when it’s time to slide I always hold the right thumbstick to the right so he slides to the outside of the bag. This helps you be safe alot when the catcher’s throw isn’t perfect.

Yup lol, I do that too. In my last 37 attempts I’ve been successful once.

Thrown out three more times costing me two runs. I’m officially retired from stealing.
-
Does anyone else have that 2-3 second lag before the runner runs after releasing L2?? I just don't understand how it works.
-
Stealing is the only thing I am good at on offense. Taking leads is unnecessary.
-
getting a good jump is important, but so is messing with the pitcher's timing such that sometimes, i'll take a lead with a guy when I have zero intention of stealing in that moment, or at all ever with that player - just to get the pitcher thinking about it. ALMOST never is more then one step lead necessary off first. Stealing third is much harder, but if the ss or 2b aren't holding you and the catcher isn't godly OR the pitcher is slower to the plate out of the stretch, you can get it done. More then the abilities of the runner or catcher, is how long it takes for the pitcher to get the ball to the plate. Also, when you get into rundowns, knowing how to stop the guy from running at all (r2+l2) can really mess with people who assume you're just going to turn back and forth.
