I usually trust the game's judgement when it comes to tagging up & advancing on fly [censored] to the outfield. Sometimes I tag up regardless of what the game says, but only if I know I can make it. I just rely on the game's judgment if I can't tell for myself (usually because of factors like the camera angle, etc).

But is it me, or does this year's game have terrible judgement when it says, "press L1 to tag up"? Because it has misled me and told me to tag up, and when I did, the throw would beat me (sometimes by a mile, depending on the runner's speed). Just wth? I could've sworn that the on-screen advice was more reliable last year.

Anyone else having trust issues with the "press L1 to tag up" notification?

I don't think its telling you to tag up. Its telling you when the earliest you can hit L1 if you want to tag up.

Yeah dont use that. It pops up way too late. You have to hit L1 right before the ball lands in the glove. That way your runner will start moving off the bag when caught. If you wait for the catch, or the notification, that delay from the time you hit the button until he goes will cost you.

There is a Youtuber, Koogs, that frustrates me because he always takes off way too late. Just thinking , "how have you not figured this out yet?" lol

Unless it is a warning track fly with the outfielder retreating, I typically just tag up manually since the AI will send runners with questionable speed to second and/or third.

You can hit L1 BEFORE it pops up, I usually hit it right as I see the ball come back into the frame, or right before the fielder is going to catch it, and I can get an ever BETTER jump without leaving the bag too early.

Yep, Ive actually looked at it in replay and what happens when we hit the "go" button, rather it be L1 or L D pad and X, is they move their body towards home first, then their foot comes off the bag. So you hit "go" a second early so they get that body move animation over with and then the foot comes off the bag by the time the catch is made.

I have my controller connected to the console to have minimum input lag, but it clearly hasn't helped lol. Most of the runners who have been tagged out this way usually have less than 70 speed or so (Babe Ruth being the most recent victim, with 60 speed).

I also have an issue with runners making stupid decisions. Cal Ripken Jr. advanced on a base hit when he should've just stayed at second base, and TN Bo Bichette tried to get an inside the park HR when he only has 70 speed and should've stopped running at third.
