As a person with deep Native American roots, I never found any of the team names or mascots offensive. Now I don’t speak for everyone of course, just my 2 cents....( this current state of everything being scrutinized and people looking to be offended drives me crazy)
I think the person I can't stand the most in baseball is Rob Manfred. Was A-Rod but Manfred is making mountains out of mole hills. I can understand the Indians name being offensive and definitely see Chief Wahoo as such but the Braves and the tomahawk chop come on. He wants the Braves to not promote the Tomahawk chop something that started with the Florida Seminoles and the Seminole tribe signed off that it was ok so leave that alone. And the braves that is more a a Proud thing it isn't like it is the Atlanta blackfaces
Agreed! I liked Rob at first, but I now think he should be removed from power......which will never happen. Seminole nation signed off on the chop huh? I didn't know that. Interesting
9th paragraph down.
Very selective reasoning. I noticed you didn’t mention the paragraph immediately following this, which relates to the title of the thread.
I was making it so people didn't have to find the part. I totally agree that the chief wahoo and redskins name is offensive but when a Native American tribe signs off on it then I feel like it is fine. Also the part you talk about reinforces what I said. Yes there is Drum banging but it is a rhythmic type like it would be for native american style ceremonies. It also is used to keep the pace of the chant.
Others do not seem to be making this distinction and you’re only citing evidence of things not being offensive, not the other way around, even when it’s all over the article you cited. That is selective reasoning.

This is kind of what I was referring to in my original statement. This is what our world has come to.

I hope you’ll be able to tolerate living in a world with a different logo on the Indians hat.

A new logo will be fine.....whatever it is. That's not the problem. The problem is this "everybody has to argue about everything" culture we live in. Everything is a "hot topic". Gotta take EVERYBODYS feelings into consideration before we cross the street. Nobody was ever trying to insult anyone, just trying to play baseball. Nothing more.

Your first post states an opinion. I’m sorry you can’t handle hearing different opinions. This must be difficult.

I thank you for your thoughtful approach to the subject.
Teams name themselves after things they admire or have admirable traits. When has a team ever named themselves "the flaming turds" or "the slimy scum buckets" I never understood who would get offended at being the honorable ideal, a team uses at an example for themselves.
If there is anything to be upset at, its the fact that PC culture is literally erasing Native Americans by bullying organizations into removing, one by one, any logo that honors them.
Its a dirty trick that has always bugged me. Claim to be defending someone from some intangible offense, while actually forcing everyone to disassociate with them.
Real heroes, amirite?
