What might a better hitting interface look like for next year?

There have been many, many excruciating arguments about zone vs directional vs analog, but what options might there be to rebuild the control system? While I tend toward the directional side (though I've lately been playing around with analog again because it's just fun) as I like the idea of "influence" to control the type of swing you throw out there, I definitely understand the zoners' complaints of other control types really not having to pay attention to intended placement at all.
I'm just curious to see what others' thoughts are about potential new schemes...
This could be tough to use, but maybe not... what if there were three points of input for swinging, rather than two, combining aspects of zone (for placement) and directional (swing/barrel angles)?
My bias against the reticle likely plays into my thoughts, but I'm thinking with other things in play as well, it would be too difficult to do those things and chase the ball around with cross-hairs, so what if placement was controlled with a stick using a 9-quadrant map of the zone like some other games have tried in the past? Simplifies it a bit, but makes you at least consider it. The other stick would work like the directional interface, where you could influence push/pull and fly/grounder. Skilled players would likely excel at being able to react with both sticks, depending on pitch, where the rest of us would likely do our best to select influence first and hold it, then try to react to the pitch with only the placement stick. Right trigger would swing (would lose the guess function, but guessing the pitch is redundant - if you know where to look, just look there and gear up for whatever you think is coming).
Of course I'd probably just end up missing the analog option... maybe I think about this too much.

Great suggestion. I would like to see R2 used as the swing as it’s a pressure input and can emulate swinging the bat (further it’s pushed, harder the swing), with left thumb stick to position location of the swing on the x-y plane.
This would mean that check swings are more input-based and high plate disciplines could have a later cutoff to register a check swing whilst low disciplines can have an earlier cutoff.
Maybe that wouldn’t be as fun in practice as it seems in theory but to me that makes sense.

To me zone just makes sense for competitive play. I don't know if I would play if I had to move two sticks. That honestly would be hell I think

I use to play zone using both sticks. But yeah, eventually decided Zone plus buttons would work better.

a right handed PCI for righthanded dominated individuals such as myself. I can pull a fb on legend but FFS I cannot consistently square up a pitch. just terrible contact all year.
