Carlos Beltran & Sammy and Mark
Beltran did a number on his legacy by being a part (ring leader) of the cheating Astros.
I wonder if this will keep him out of the Hall of Fame. I can see the writers taking out the lack of punishment by MLB on him. With how strict the MLB HOF voting already is, I think Beltran was borderline to begin with. It definitely keeps him out
I was looking at his #'s.
With the enlightenment of the media regarding sabermetrics, I could have seen him as a candidate that would gain momentum until he finally hit 75%
Career WAR 70.1 (70.0 is considered by many as the minimum for consideration)
119 OPS+
Some big postseason moments.
He would have started in the 20-25% range and over the years added more and more votes.the media should never have a vote regarding hall of fame eligibility, it should belong to the players who played and know truth, "writers" are subjective and wish they could play.
Players should have the only vote???
That is laughable.
** When players have the votes their buddies get into the HOF.
Look at Harold Baines. The only way he should be in the Hall is if he bought a ticket.
But he got in because his former owner and two of his teamates were on the veterans committee. **The current system with the BBWAA writers voting is more than adequate. Their standards to be eligble to vote are high. You need to be a beat writer covering baseball for 10 consecutive years to be eligble.
Thanks for bringing that up, as that's immediately who I thought of as well.
Plus my obligatory Ruth is the greatest ever post in response to the earlier discussion.
baseball "writers" are those who cant play bottom line, you spend 10, 20 years writing but youve never spent a day engulfed in a clubhouse, dont even know/understand what youre saying or talking about. if youre a "writer" youre a scrub man.
You're angry for no reason here. Just chill man.

Players-only voting is a TURRIBLE idea that leads to things like Harold Baines and Lloyd Waner.
The optimal method would be to keep it w/ the writers, but have their voting privileges revocable if they do something stupid, like leaving Ripken off your ballot or voting for Livan Hernandez.

I’m sure Ty Cobb is on a short list of one the most reviled and despicable human beings to ever live. He allegedly killed a black man for merely looking at his wife. He was a notoriously dirty player that would literally do anything for his benefit and yet he is a part of this game. So if we’re going to hold people to a certain standard off the field then stop putting that reprobate in the game. If not than stop leaving great players out of the game for actions that have zero to do with their actions on the field!!!

A writer's job is to KNOW the game.
A player's job is to PLAY the game. Just because someone played doesn't give them infinite knowledge about the game.In fact, the better the player the worse a judge of others a player would be. The more a player obsessed is with bettering themselves, the less he is watching and evaluating others.
2 anecdotes that utterly disprove your 'ex-players are the best judges of talent' theory:
A. Michael Jordan is by all accounts the best basketball player ever. How's he done with player evaluation in his stint with the hornets?
B. The only recent MLB GM of the Year to have actual playing experience was Billy Beane. Every other GMOY this decade was someone who never made the majors.

what you've stated has never been proven as truth-yes ty was a douche but nothing has ever been truly proven of what you said but because youre a "writer" its truth. ty was a douche but no he never killed a black man kid. writers can say what they will and most dont bother to check or know facts.
Who said there was proof? I didn’t, I said allegedly, which literally means a claim made with no proof. So when you attack someone on the forum get your [censored] facts straight!!!
my facts are straight turbo, you make me laugh
You’re post was literally made with no facts as I proved in my previous post because you omitted the key word I used in my post. Therefore invalidating you’re factless retort!!!
