What will happen with online gameplay next year? Can someone with a 5 play someone on a 4?

I would say probably not but I don't know for sure. I am also wondering this as I would like to wait to buy the 5 but if I have nobody to play on the 4 I might just get one earlier than I had planned.

It most likely will not be possible because the coding for the PS5 games will be way more advanced and servers can't process that information to previous-gen consoles.

I'm sure more people will be playing on PS4 in 2021. 2022 will probably be the year to move over.

What I'm really wondering is if someone on an Xbox could play with both ps4 and ps5, while Sony may not be as compatible.
There's been a pretty clear winner each generation and its always flip flopped btwn the big 2 (ps2, Xbox 360, ps4 came out on top). With a new halo at launch (which will be included for game pass) and fable confirmed, my $ would be on Microsoft right now.
