We don't know for sure, but I doubt it. Hopefully there's something added in 20 that gives offline players better reasons to play DD.

I hope so. I loved 2018’s version. I didn’t even play last years.

I liked the card variety missions they had in the 11th inning program. What I mean like 50 xbh with finest cards. Maybe not individual card missions but team card missions. Like 50 homers with cubs cards. Or would individual card missions help out offline players. This is my first year playing DD with the newest game. I’ve only done rtts with older games with my ps3 so I’m new to this stuff.

MLB 16-18 had a lot of that type of mission, including missions for specific cards.

There was no XP rewards path back then; the stat missions were the main way of obtaining a large number of the cards available. What ended up happening was that people did what they could to finish the missions as quickly as possible, which was to play versus the CPU repeatedly on the lowest difficulty. For those who wanted to play online, this was a huge problem, since they had to do something they didn't want to in order to have a competitive team. Offline people like me weren't bothered at all and were happy about having a variety of interesting objectives to accomplish.

This year, it went in reverse. SDS replaced the missions with the XP rewards path , which made the acquisition of cards much more palatable to online players, but they added very little in terms of things to do for offline DD players. The biggest addition was more Conquest maps, but that only added more three-inning road games. The overwhelming majority of moments don't involve your DD team, and even then, most are an inorganic slog of repeatedly trying to do one thing and only that thing. Missions in 16-18 could be done several-at-a-time so that if for example you failed a single-game mission, you were still able to progress in other missions at the same time.

I became heavily interested in DD in 17 and 18, but I gave up on it in 19 back in April. I want to enjoy it because its method of acquiring and progressing your team is infinitely more interesting to me than being a GM in Franchise mode. The best I can hope for, it seems, is that "Custom Leagues" will allow me to play some sort of offline season mode with my DD team, but they won't be talking about that for another three weeks.

I am just the opposite. '18 I gave up on in April or early may with only 50 hours invested and that was because I saw the writing on the wall. I needed to grind with players I did not want in my lineup. It also seemed like, as an offline player, that getting the souvenirs was next to impossible if you did not flip cards.

I hope they bring something back! 18 got a lot of [censored] for the missions and I understand it. But I loved that TYPE of missions. The requirements were high for some but to me, that made it worthwhile.

I didn’t play much this year honestly because I felt there wasn’t much to do except online play. I like to play online sometimes but working towards a card was fun for me. I liked using obscure bronze or silver cards

In the end, what will make the decision for them is which method had the better fan engagement for the whole year. Whichever method had more people logging more hours and playing deeper into the calendar year is the one they will probably expand on.

I'm all for keeping the XP reward path and not going MLB18-level crazy on stat missions as long as I actually have something decent to do. Hopefully they take a cue from the fact that I spent more time playing 18 last year than I did 19.

Keep the reward path...add in some grinding...not an exorbitant amount and swap those in for a few of the moments...I'm in the minority i believe, but I hated the moments...spending time just to hit a homerun with a guy. just my 2 cents.
