Is this the END of Diamond Dynasty?!

Clickbait 2.0 . To answer the question, probably not.
-
If I am correct, packs in this game are not a form of lootboxes, in order for it to be a lootbox, it has to be something you can only buy with real money rather than in game currency. This is usually incentivized through putting playable characters and items behind pay walls. Neither of these 2 things are in The Show. Therefore it would be exceedingly difficult to sue SDS for using lootboxes.
No it's not the end of DD

It's not about suing SDS, it's the other game companies like EA that are a bit more predatory "might" bring down regulations on packs in general. You can buy stubs with money, and those stubs can be used on packs.
I put quotations around the might because ultimately EA and similar businesses have deep enough pockets to buy legislation, so I doubt we see any headway in the American market,But yeah, it's not the end of DD, that is a clickbait title.

Which is the exact reason that it's not a lootbox

Under current European proposed plans, it would fall into that category.

Death to loot boxes. All they need to do is remove the feature to purchase them with real money and it would have never been an issue.

I was under the impression that as long as they can be purchased through in game currency that can be obtained without making a purchase then it does not qualify as a lootbox

That impression is wrong, at least in the view of European lawmakers.

I can think of at least 4 wars our country has fought in order to avoid listening to European proposals.

Ok? I don't get what that has to do with what I said. The European proposals would obviously only apply to the versions of game sold in those countries. Lobbyists would never let that kind of stuff pass here.

Wow, really good thing SDS barely sells copies out there so even if the worst happens there's a better chance of Barry Bonds being unanimous than there is of them messing with packs to avoid this lawsuit. It's a non problem no matter how you want to put it so I don't see why you're so adamant about defending the lawsuit

What? I'm not following. I was never arguing that SDS was greedy or anything. I'm not "defending" anything
What I was saying is the greedier companies (EA) are eventually going to bring down harsh regulations, (at least in Europe). That means companies like SDS are going to suffer because if the EU decides to ban packs (or at least age-gate packs), it's going to apply to every company so SDS would be affected.
Not the U.S. market of course, and baseball obviously isn't as popular in Europe, they would just have to make a different version if they wanted to sell there depending on what happens.

Would they need to make a different version or could they simply not sell stubs in the EU PS store? Therefore removing the relationship between cash and packs.

I'm honestly not quite sure exactly the form it would take, as these are all based on proposed ideas from European lawmakers, nothing has really been set in stone yet. I'd imagine it'd be more along the lines of they can't sell the packs, people could still buy stubs and buy players directly from the market.

Good point... removing stubs from the store would stop that from happening. Didn’t think of that (I don’t buy stubs!). I guess it wouldn’t be too hard code-wise to disable purchasable packs in the game based on the user’s region. Obviously there would be other considerations like the possible market impact. Quite an interesting situation really.
-
Biggest complication would be if you disable purchaseable packs you deny purchase of packs with earned stubs as well as purchased stubs. That would have to be sacrificed.
