I am just tired of people constantly complaining about the game mode not being in the game. They removed it years ago and gave reasons why they did remove it and at the time they said they have no plans on it returning in the future. The created league thing may be the best thing to keep you happy and I am happy about that.
Complaining about not having this game mode is just as annoying as people complaining about lineouts in this game. Everyone knows it's an issue don't need to repeat it everyday.
We are complaining bc ultimate team modes have effectively killed any other modes in sports games especially the show.
I love both OF & DD but as I get older I see myself wanting to play mostly OF because of the time commitment that DD requires. Whether it is grinding through RS, moments, missions and etc DD requires a lot of time no matter how good you are.
OF allows someone to keep playing but not have to log in every day to keep up with content while also giving ppl something new to do in 20 im entering my 5th year playing DD and its getting old the reason I keep going is because I love the sport and love the competition of RS.
No one is saying DD should not be the main focus for SDS lets be real its how they make most of there money but ignoring other aspects of the game is not good either. Look what happened to COD last year they took out the campaign and as per them not too many ppl played it yet there was an uproar and they had to bring it back for this year's game. There should be options like there are in other games.

OFM is also more fun because it's setup like actual baseball where you play the same people several times per season. Trades are worth the time and value, and imo that's way more enjoyable than obtain best player and plug them into your lineup again and again.

It's amazing how people's first response is it was the least played mode!! Of course it was when none of it worked properly. If DD played as bad as OF then it would be played less to!!
OF was never updated, multiple seasons wasn't right (played the exact schedule every season), gms would always go to que and sometimes not count, Playoffs wouldn't start sometimes, took forever to start a lg sometimes a day to multiple hours etc. I could go on!!
With all that being said me and a couple of my friends ran a lg of 24 dedicated user's for 5 yrs. We worked around all the problems the gm had cause we wanted to play OF.
So before everyone bashes OF know the circumstances of why it was the least played. I do like DD but at the end of the day I'd like a realistic team to play with friends and not have to deal with the bunt dancing, holding R2, etc of DD!! IJS -

You are trying to compare the only offline aspect of a COD game to a small portion of what is an online mode called Online Franchise....terrible comparison. Furthermore, 17 million copies sold in the first 8 days and this is while Fortnite was at its peak. Don't say not too many people played it. And this years game is made by a completely different dev team and company. Anyway, here are some stats for you as to why they dropped it. In 2017, the last year of OF, there was a total of 493,000 games played in OF. SDS sold 1.09million copies of MLB the Show 17. That means on average each user played less than half an OF game. Compared to the average 75 games of RS a user played. There was a total of 81,800,000 RS games played. Yet, OF put as much stress on the servers as DD did.
I pray that this custom league mode is similar to OF so you all can enjoy.

The comparison sticks because ACTIVISION the owner of COD regardless of the publisher wanted to concentrate on multiplayer and nix anything that could not be monetized. They had to revert back because of the backlash. Yes, the noise is much bigger coming from the COD community because of the number of players but the principle is the same gaming companies are doing away with anything that can not be monetized. Sports games are headed in the same direction as shooters.
What you fail to realize is everything you stated was when SDS was a smaller company. Also if DD had come out like OF with minimal effort put into it the player base would be just as small. OF never took off like DD bc of the of bugs that it had. My honest opinion is SDS is holding out because they fear if OF did come back in its full capacity DD would take a major hit that's why they will probably wait until the game is multiplatform.
The new custom league sounds nice but ill wait to see exactly what it is. If it turns out to be just a mode inside DD where you can only play 1 season then its still a bust.

These game are developed in three year cycles once their current game is out that same dev team is working on the next one. For example, the devs who worked on Modern Warefare (2019) are also currently working on COD 2022. Enough with comparing a sports games small online mode to the entire offline mode of a game like COD. It is a tough comparison.
SDS is nearly the same size as it was in 2017. It hasn't grown dramatically different at all and some reports I just looked up show more employees employed by SDS in 2017 compared to 2019. I would imagine the team will grow come 2020 and on as there will be more platforms and such.
Going to respectful disagree with you that if OF didn't have bugs and was in full capacity it would than lead to DD taking a huge hit. I definitely do think a few more people would play the mode but DD would still be the main mode played by a large amount and you would see the same amount of total games played as years past.
Big things are going to come to MLB 2021 with the multi-platform, I hope they do bring back Online Franchise and a few modes to DD as well.

The official statement from SDS above (and in one of the 18 pre-release streams I’m sure) wasn’t that there were no plans for its return.
