Whether he was better on the gridiron or the diamond doesn't matter to me. I'd just contend that Bo would've had a better-than-decent shot at Canton AND Cooperstown if it weren't for that serious hip injury.
Give him 15 mostly healthy seasons in both sports (averaging 13 gms/yr in NFL and 125 gms/yr in MLB) and he might've accomplished it. No doubt in my mind about Canton as he likely finishes north of 12,000 yds rushing with 100+ TDs & a highlight reel rivaled only by Barry Sanders. Cooperstown might've been tougher to crack since he struck out a ton (averaged 196 Ks/yr) and was only a .250 career hitter (not to mention playing a good portion of his career during the Steroid era). But he also averaged 33 HR and 19 SB (per 162-gm). That's 450+ HR and around 300 SB over 15 yrs. Bo might've had a career similar to Andre Dawson (HOF).
On the baseball side of things, I doubt he would keep up that HR and SB pace for 15 years.

Sure, he prolly slows down on SB. But his HR would likely stay consistent (esp. during that era) and he prolly exceeds that HR pace given more exp/ABs.

Dawson isn't a great example because he never struck out... 14% K rate. Even less during his prime

Keep in mind too that he would always join the Raiders 6 or 7 weeks into their regular season because he had to wait for the baseball season to end. So between that AND splitting time in the backfield with Marcus Allen, those rushing stats and yards per carry are all the more impressive. Having watched the start of his career to the finish in both sports, I can attest he was much more dominant in football. He showed flashes of greatness in baseball but he never had the chance to develop it all the way.

Gotcha on K rate... you're right. Was mostly talking just from a SPD/PWR standpoint... Canseco might be a better comp. Still, I gotta believe Bo's K-rate improves over a longer career given more ABs and knowledge about pitchers.

For sure.. like I said, if Bo had only focused on baseball, I think he would have had a Sammy Sosa type career, but no roids or corked bats needed.

He played in an era where 20 hr’s was a hr hitter. Some people have such double standards. Adam Dunn led the league in strikeouts was an average defender and could only hit homeruns, yet people love him in this game. On one of Rodon’s 1st streams this year after Gallo hit a Hr, in this game, commented “it’ll go that far, if he hits it”. Obviously a dig at the fact he leads the league in K’s. Don’t forget, umpires actually called strikes back then.

He is way overused in Madden so Ill be ok with out him.
Well he was a lot better at football....
I would argue he was more successful at mlb than NFL.
2,782 career yards rushing
16 touchdowns141 Homers and 415 RBI
He played twice the amount of seasons in baseball. The guy had a 5.5 yds/att for his career. He was without a doubt, a better football player.
Ya I just said he had a more successful career in the mlb. Alot of RB's can roll off 2,782 yards in two seasons. 5.5 YPC is considered elite but he never had more than 950 yards in a season. He finished 10th in the AL mvp had 100 rbis and 30 home runs. That is a alot better than rushing for 950 yards.
He never played a full season either. Played 10-11 games a year, was allowed to play baseball to the end of its season then joined the Raiders for there season.

Sure, in this game, Bo would be fun.. because he'd have Adam Dunn like offense with more speed..
I think most of us were debating about how he was better at football than baseball.. which the consensus is that he was...
Don't know about double standards here...
.300 OBPs and 32% K rates were never good in any era.. that k rate back then was abysmal too. Much less strikeouts league wide -

He was splitting time with a HOFer in Marcus Allen. He had 173 attempts out of the teams 454. If he got the amount of attempts that people like AD, LT2, or Emmitt got, he would've had 2,000 easy
Could have should have would have... I your best season as a pro is 950 yards and 4td those are just ok. He was a freak athlete and he was more dominant when he was on the football field but he never had the type of success that he should have due to injury. He was a very productive baseball player. Im not knocking him, its him and Deion are the only dudes who could pull it off still to this day.
Him playing for the raiders behind Marcus Allen had everything to do with why he didn’t achieve numbers. Team success is just as important as individual numbers when it comes to being successful at a sport. The raiders were a good team back then, I’m not going to discredit someone as good as Bo Jackson because he didn’t have an issue playing the support role when he could have had MVP numbers on a team without Marcus Allen. Teams could be a lot more successful now if they had players that could check their ego like that so he probably deserves extra credit.
Also if it wasn’t for contract issues I’m sure quite a few athletes could play multiple sports these days considering some get drafted by multiple pro teams in different sports right out of college.
-
I’m 40 years old. I saw Bo in his prime, had he never gotten injured, I think he would have been a HOFer and one of the most athletically gifted athletes ever.
-
He couldn't skate good enough to make the NHL. Come on, now.
