Utility man perk
-
Saw this on reddit and wanted to bring it here for discussion.
Some players should not be punished for playing a position outside their “primary” position. For example, zobrist was a beast everywhere on the field. Why does his fielding go down for using him else where?

I think that's a good idea, but would need to be reserved for true utility men. Zobrist is a different beast. Most true utility men that still field well at any position won't get high level cards.

I think there can be two quirks
-Super Utility
A player who is proficient at 5+ positions will get less secondary position penalty. This Quirk would be used for Ben Zobrist/Howie Kendrick/Kike Hernandez types
-Multi Position mastery
A player who played long stretches at various positions will have no second position penalty. This would fit for the Cal Ripken/Stan Musial/Pete Rose types. It's really interesting to see Pete Rose played so many games at so many positions, but rarely changed positions during a season
Edit: Interesting that I can say Kike Hernandez, even though that first word can be used as a serious anti-Semitic slur, but I can't say [censored] Allen, even though [censored] is a far less offensive term used for the male anatomy

A player who played long stretches at 2-3 positions (Cal Ripken, Alex Rodriguez types who had a "Second Career" at a different position) will have no second position penaltyYes, I think this would be more effective. Ripken and A-Rod like you mentioned. Also guys like Biggio, Joe Mauer, Sheffield, Chipper, etc. Guys that started at one position and then moved later in the careers.

Love the idea and you can’t tell someone to “suck a Kike” but I get your point.
