Lack of knowledge

I have been on here several times over the years saying how SDS developers lack some basic baseball knowledge. today I saw another example of it. I have a SP for the Indians and I was playing against the Red Sox when Raphael Devers started to argue with the 1B umpire. Then the 1B coach stepprd in and that is when I noticed he was wearing number 9. Anybody with any baseball knowledge at all knows that 9 with the Red Sox is retired because that was Ted Williams number. I know it is a simple thing and has no affect on game play but it just proves my point i have been making for a long time.

I mean........ do most baseball fans know that? Do you know every single retired number for every single team? Not saying that SDS shouldn't know that, they should since they actually make a baseball game. However, I don't think the average baseball fan is going to know every teams retired numbers.
Like obviously I know that Ted Williams number is retired, but if you asked me the exact number, I wouldn't know.

Wait, you're players can argue!? Is this a thing?
It just occurs as a random animation after a close play at first. Nothing comes of it, and you have no control over it. It adds a little bit of realism though.

How do you know the first base coach isn't the ghost of Ted Williams?

I don't think its lack of baseball knowledge I think its choosing to use the systems memory elsewhere for the game. If they had to program in every retired number for every team they would probably have to take other game features out.

Sometimes my player and a base coach have the same jersey number but I don’t accuse SDS of lacking baseball knowledge. How bloop singles are scored on the other hand...

But you just proved my point in either they don't know that 2 people on the same team can't have the same number or they just don't care about realism as much as they say they do.

Retired numbers ARE programmed for every team though. I tried choosing #35 for the White Sox and it just made me 36. I guess the coach’s uniforms are generated using a different set of data, but they absolutely have coded retired numbers into the game.
