Anyone ever make it out of "Bench mode"?

I have 3 players going. Two are fine, one is "stuck" in a "bench" role. Like many of you, I won the Rookie of the Year award, but was then offered a "Bench" role... at $4.5m a year... odd in and of itself.
I'm slogging through my next season, pinch hitting and getting odd starting roles at 1B and 3B - even one at SS (I'm a pure-power catcher). I'm leading the All-Star voting though I have 150 fewer AB's than the second place catcher. I'm ranked higher than the starting catcher overall, but my defensive stats are weaker. I requested a trade, and it was granted (Tigers to Cardinals). But... I'm still in the same spot.
Anyone ever make it out of the loop? I know the response in general will be "start over", and I might, but I wanted to know if anyone here ever made it out. Thanks!

That happened to me in last years game. Demanded a trade, got traded to another team with the same role. I simmed until i got out of that role and it happened after my standard 6 years in the bigs where i could enter free agency.

I think a key is getting an A potential at the Scouting Events. I have not had this problem with my RTTS players.
