Granted with the lockdown in place there's nothing else to do; but normally if you arent playing the game, you're working or doing something else.

And you also paid for the game, so technically......

I appreciate someone more for spending than playing 10 hours a day like most of the nms crowds.

I mean I buy the game and work the market so I don’t have to spend more money but I’m with you definitely not something to brag about. Stubs gained flipping per hour is probably below minimum wage. I like doing it because I’m both old and old school. I think spending $60 on a game is more than enough but I I also don’t mind buying and selling stuff on the market when I’m not actively playing. I’m one of those weirdos that enjoy a mindless, repetitive task here and there. To each their own.

Ah man, every year. I can almost guarantee that someone is gonna post “I’m two cards away from Mantle........... NO MONEY SPENT!!” at least once a day. Or the classic where someone says the game is pay to win and twenty people immediately arrive and say “I have Mantle and 4 million stubs left over, NO MONEY SPENT!”
It’s like who cares??? Then someone comes in and says “I dropped $1500 to get Mantle” and everyone goes nuts on them, saying “You are the problem!” or similar things. I don’t care personally. Sometimes I spend my money on stubs, mostly I don’t anymore. I brought Lofton, McGriff and Percival yesterday for a total of 105k stubs, because I wanted to use them, but didn’t really want to play the event forever to earn them. Could I have earned them free with a little time invested? Yup. Could I have got them for a fraction of the price if I waited? Yup. I did get them NO MONEY SPENT, but I also robbed myself of 100k I didn’t need to spend. That’s my choice and I didn’t make a big post about it, all I’d say is it’s the same with Mantle. Unlock him or don’t, spend real money to do so, or don’t. Just understand that nobody else really cares.

It feels pretty cool that I'm getting there without spending any extra cash, whereas madden I spent $200. The difference is that madden has 2 currencies while this you can just play for the same currency that you buy.

That said who knows where I am if I hadn't pulled 3 Bellingers... Granted I didn't sell 2 of them for 140k like today either

Baseball is unique amongst the major sports in the US in that there is no hard salary cap.
As such, there are small market teams and there are major market teams...and varying levels of spending in between. There are teams which pay tremendous amounts in luxury tax and consistently win division races and world championships.

But every now and then a team that takes in more in luxury tax than than they spend on the field sneaks their way into a World Series. Does a championship mean more to the Royals than to the Yankees? You bet. Would most baseball fans prefer to see an upstart Pirates squad upend the mighty Dodgers payroll? Absolutely.

Do you now understand why some people who compete with NMS take a little more pride in the feat? I hope so.

I'm okay when it has to do with relying on your skill level to be NMS, flipping is a pretty weak flex (obviously still the move, just not much to brag about unless you're Teepz). However, for me, the enjoyment of being NMS is that you feel like you built something naturally, I make almost all my stubs from br and events and getting 12 wins in either feels great. Piggy backing off your own skill in order to avoid paying on the game is an incredibly rewarding feeling, you should try it

I haven’t bought stubs since early on in 17 when I didn’t understand how to work the market, but I have no problem with anyone spending money on the game. Time = money, so who cares which one players convert to stubs? I do agree that people brag about NMS more than they should. It really isn’t that hard if you know what you’re doing. It’s kind of like when people are vegan, and for some reason they feel compelled to share that fact with everyone they know, or anyone in range of their voice or internet presence.

People that spend money on stubs aren’t hoarding them like Scrooge McDuck. They’re putting them into the market and are likely to be less patient on spending, which actually makes it easier for people who don’t spend money to flip their way to what they want. Seems like a win win situation to me.

I always laughed at those NMS brag threads... So your saying it is more noble to play videogames 6 hours a day grinding out a great team than going to work and having money to waste instead of precious time? I spend money... because I enjoy the game and I value time way more than money. I would rather waste $50 than spend 4 hours grinding anyday.

My favorite are the streamer Br gods who have a “nms” god squad. Like if you are a br God, why are you even spending a nickel on your main account.

Meh it’s more of an “accomplishment” than spending money. So let them take pride, as much as should be gotten from a video game at least.

Whatever gives broke people more self esteem I’m all for... Kidding.

I actually do enjoy the slow grind though. I've been doing full team inning grinds for Nico Hoerner and Alex Kirilloff which just gives me a chance to use players I normally wouldn't.

IMO earning the players make it a much better feeling. Personally I’ve never spend a dime on a game after buying because I feel it just diminishes my sense of accomplishment, that’s just me though. If you have the money and the game is what you like spending it on go ahead.

This seems like the perfect post for me to announce that I got Mantle no money spent a couple of days ago. I still can’t believe I spent 150k stubs to get Cole, a pitcher I’ll never even use, but oh well. Every other year I’ve spent a bit of money to get the job done, but with the pandemic, I had plenty of downtime. I would’ve cracked if the stub sale was 50% off, but 15% was a joke.

Lol, all my posts are like that. I start out writing something and end up with paragraphs and paragraphs. At least I do use paragraphs and not just submit a misspelled wall of text with no punctuation.
