Hiya. I sent this to Support a short while ago. I'm curious for your opinion(s) on this topic. Thanks!

The collision physics in the game in events involving the baseball and bats, the ground, fixtures, etc... are brilliant, going from strength to strength each year.

Having said that, there is one area in which the physics of the collision are nothing like what would happen in the real world. There are many examples of this throughout the game, from players phasing through other players when they would otherwise collide to a lack of effect(s) when a player is struck with a batted or thrown ball, especially a batted ball.

I realize that this inconsistency may be the result of how the players' bodies are modeled in the game, that it may take major upgrades/rewrites to treat the players in-game as physical objects with surfaces of varying densities, etc. I do believe that it's worth the effort to get this last bit of in-game physics depicted in realistic manifestations, from bruises to more serious injuries.

Consider this example, which happened in a game I played earlier today: facing Yu Darvish, playing as Mickey Mantle, I connected with "Perfect/Perfect" Contact and sent a ball screaming off of Mantle's bat at 109 miles per hour. Even while realizing that it's just a game, I still instinctively winced as the ball rocketed into Darvish's face, just above his nose. The impact was such that the catcher very nearly caught the rebound in the air. Darvish did not fall down and he continued pitching for the rest of the game as if nothing had happened. In the real world, such a line drive travelling at 109 mph and hitting a person just above the bridge of their nose just might kill them. Now, I don't want deaths depicted in-game... this is baseball, not Mortal Kombat. However, it wouldn't be unreasonable for an event such as I've described to result in consequences for the pitcher similar to those encountered by Herb Score in 1957. He sustained a broken face and an injured eye and was out for the season.

While it's regrettable that players are occasionally injured by pitches, hits, and the like, it's unrealistic and immersion-breaking for violent collisions in-game to be free of consequences.

Thank you as always for your time and efforts.

Is this kind of like me trying to run into my catcher with a pitcher during a showdown, so he can drop a fouled pop up and give me one more opportunity for a strikeout? It doesn’t work....

Every now and then you’ll get a pitcher hit in somewhere and they’ll get an injury, even knocked over sometimes (I’ve got a couple of clips but too lazy to post them). Only recently my RTTS pitcher was out for a few days with a bruised forehead from a pitch that got him (in the neck lol).

But I assume the consensus here will be a big no to injuries when it comes to online (non-league) games.

However, that line ‘this is baseball, not Mortal Kombat’ totally needs to feature in the in-game commentary somehow. One of the best one-liners ever on this forum.

Ha, I do that all the time, like in player-locked moments as a pitcher. “Get away from that ball, [censored] it, let it drop!”

No, because they can’t deal with any more collision animations. Please don’t ever suggest anything like this again, because the end result will be that your defenders are unable to make a catch when there’s another player in the vicinity of your defender, just like we’ve seen with outfield walls for two years now. Also, it would be exploited somehow by the try hard kids who bunt with anyone who has 75+ speed. Causing deliberate collisions would undoubtedly ensue and every time you got on the basepaths it would be like Albert Belle vs Fernando Vina out there. In my opinion, this game looks bad enough already.
