Player lock and managing games

I like to play franchise games with player lock but I cant stand the way the manager manages the bullpen and pinch hitting/running. It seems to me that it is not possible to play on player lock while maintaining the ability to manage the game. Does anybody know if there is some secret trick or process for doing so? Thanks in advance.

Most likely not, player lock invokes the RTTS engine. Engine's not the right word but I can't think of another more suitable.
