Why does everyone hate on Joe Carter?
-
I chose him and actually really like him. Always has hit well for me especially vs lefties. Why do people dislike his card?
-
Nobody dislikes the card..
Everyone just thinks he doesn't deserve to be a boss and have a card rated that high.
They're kind of right. But neither does Brian Roberts, and here we are -

They're kind of right. But neither does Brian Roberts, and here we areRoberts had 29.7 career fWAR, compared to Carter’s 17.1 career fWAR.
Roberts isn’t great, but he’s much more deserving than Carter.
-
I don't like Carter's swing personally.

Much more deserving is a bit of a stretch. Cumulatively obviously not.. longevity.. and of course postseason heroics bring that closer to a tie...
-
Here we go again, got to have a Carter thread once a week around here.

Postseason heroics are completely unrelated from career stats. Roberts had almost double Carter’s career fWAR in 771 less games.
And as great as people think Carter’s offense was, his career wRC+ is only 1 point higher than Roberts.

I know.. but we aren't talking about stats. We are talking about players deserving of a good card.. postseason heroics are included here.
I'm fully aware of Carter's overrated career. I'm a big supporter of that. Watched his whole career. Dude was a rally killer

So just give him the 87 postseason card that we always get. No need for him to have a career card if the homerun is basically the only reason most people remember him.

That's what I fully expected... But lo and behold we have a card of him based on his bubblegum stats instead of actual value..
There is also a 95 overall Brandon Marsh card...
Worse travesties in this game than a souped up Joltin Joe now

I think it would be more justifiable if they labelled the same card as a postseason card (and forgot about the 87 version from previous years). To have it be a prime card opens up the conversation for him to be compared to more deserving players. He obviously is known for his postseason heroics rather than being a steady player through his career so to have a prime card implies there was period of dominance rather than moments of dominance. Just this jays fan's 2 cents. I do love Joe though.

There is only one Joltin’ Joe. And he does not share power.

Oh he was steady!!! Extremely steady.. as consistent at it gets.... Consistently Slightly above average...
Though he did have a couple big seasons in terms of WAR -

Haha ya I know. But DiMaggio won't mind.

I can’t say for sure why people are hating on Carter but I can say this: I unlocked him like 10 days ago and he doesn’t have an AB for me. I don’t have a personal issue with Carter but as an inning boss... I don’t know... you’d think there would be some point where I would see a need for him.

Matt Carpenter had a 95 SS last year. I’m fine with prestige Joe Carter also being a 95. He had some real solid years
