pls nerf the agony of defeat
-
Last night, on a whim I started an 0-15 run against Gerrit Cole, I scratched and clawed by way into a 15-15 tie with the bases loaded and 3 outs. The runner on third had 84 speed, so I was not worried about Judge or Hicks throwing him out at the plate, and 8-9-1 were coming up in the order
First At Bat: Had a perfect perfect lineout to short with the lucky 7 free meatball. Painful, but I have two outs to play with
Second At Bat: Gio Urshela up, and 4 pitches in he hits an early/okay grounder right to third for the out
Final At Bat: This is it, It's all up to Teoscar Hernandez. First pitch is a meatball and I hit it high and hard to right field. I think I've got this, but a majestic, 6'8" Aaron Judge leaps at the wall and robs my walkoff grand slam, depriving me of Blake Snell for another day.It hurts friends, it hurt a lot. Normally I have to get somewhere between 12-15 runs just to have a chance against the tougher bosses, and on a "last run for fun", I ALMOST made it. I tried, and I failed miserably. Moral of the story? Don't try.

I wonder if that hurts more than going in 10-15 and managing to lose, coz I’ve done that plenty. Hurts so much.

I had a run where I started 15-15 against Kopech, and struck out 14 consecutive times. Thankfully I did win that showdown, but that was probably the worst start you could ever have

I know that hindsight is 20/20... but I've played enough showdown to know that more often than not the pitcher will work himself into a 3-2 count..... if you're tied 15-15, bases loaded, 3 outs to burn... play for the W.... wait for the full count, pinch hit your best bunter, on 3-2, square up to bunt, send your runners.. if its going to be a ball, pull back the bunt and take the free run... if its a strike, drop it down and take your W.

I get it, but it's real hard to not swing at a pitch right down the middle. On top of that I'm a notoriously bad bunter. I did that in an old NL East showdown and grounded into a nearly run ending triple play. And JUAN PIERRE was the bunter!
-
I'm always a bit nervous to bunt myself... but with 3 outs to play with... it's a strategy I'd use... with 1 or 2... probably not... the key is being able to read the pitch and pull it back if its a ball... trying to bunt a ball usually doesnt end well for the offense.
-
I've even pulled the bunt back only to end up wearing the pitch... hit batter for a run... in showdown, I'll take it however i can get it.

This is why I just play MTO for Team Affinity. takes a little longer, but saves a lot of heartburn : ) It's also kinda fun......especially with the trades.

Thissssss... I've done several M2O runs... really enjoyed it at first, now it kind of feels like a grind... but the trade aspect is pretty cool... I'm still trying to land Trout in a trade... but so far I've been offered Yelich, Arenado, Story, Yates, Morton, Meadows, Bryant, Soler, Bell, Kluber, Lynn, Gallo, and others... i forget them all

M2O is so easy it hurts. Just won 114 games with a Mariners team lead by Haniger, Alex Wood, Willie Calhoun, and Mike Minor
