Disussion Time - Best overall squad
-
@Dolenz_PSN Beltran’s power vs right puts him out of this conversation for me. Same with some of the other top cards like Bernie and Turner. VMart > Campanella for me. I couldn’t even use Pedroia vs the CPU. His lack of power is frustrating. Ketel needs to be in the lineup. If I had Jackie, Ketel would DH.

I can understand that. People weigh the attributes in their own way. It's entirely possible, or even likely, that the weighting of the attributes in my program should be changed.
Based on the comparison image though I would probably use them differently. Beltran possibly as a lead off guy to get on base and maybe steal a few bags and Trout like in the third or 4th spot to hit HRs and drive guys in.

So this is the lineup my program comes up with for best overall squad currently. Obviously this is a program so it is just crunching numbers and doesn't or can't add any value based on which players have good swings or bad swings, nor does it give any value to being a switch hitter (I have a separate best switch hitter lineup report).
It does it's best to fill the spots, taking into account secondary positions (which is why Albert is in RF and Jackie Robinson is at 1B) to create the best overall lineup of 9 players. It takes into account hitting, fielding and speed (and blk/pop time for catchers).
For pitchers I know people have preferred pitches but again that is way to involved for my program. It does however place some value in Speed Differences between pitches and average break of all pitches. But that is a small amount in comparison to the attributes

@GoozeFn_PSN why is power such an emphasis over contact and speed in this game? Does everything have to be a home run? But then I hear people talking about its baseball. In real baseball contact and speed guys make all the difference. Basically I dont ever want to hear that phrase or played out argument of.. thats baseball. No its a video game.
-
@Ditka06_MLBTS It is baseball and it is a game. Power is the most important element of both. Yes, it is exaggerated in this game. I’d be perfectly happy if the hitting engine was more realistic, but it isn’t.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN exactly it is not. Hence why that phrase "its baseball" is absolutely obsolete
-
@Ditka06_MLBTS While it’s not perfect, it absolutely is baseball. We’re also talking about what’s optimal, not what can be good. Create a God squad in real life and you’ll end up with a team full of power.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN thats not true. Tony gwynn, ichiro, Jeter etc etc. We're just as good as any power guys. Line drive hitters. A 110 mph line drive more often then the guy who hits 50 home runs is better id argue.

This thread doesn't mention switch hitting nearly enough. Its ridiculously good to be able to switch hit. Blame sds, but it is.
-
@Dolenz_PSN my dodgers theme team with captains is at 96 overall and I don't even have all the best cards.
-
@ryguy034753_XBL dodgers and mariners do have excellent theme teams

According to the power rankings my app does, the Dodgers are in first place currently.

I do have a similar report I can run that uses the same logic but only looks at switch hitters.
-
@Ditka06_MLBTS That’s not what I meant, but if you’re making an all time team, which positions pick for best all time doesn’t have power and who is it? Also, we’ve had usable Jeter and Gwynn cards with 80ish power. That’s why I’ve been advocating for several years for the first 99’s to be guys like Gwynn.
-
@ryguy034753_XBL Are the captain boosts actually working now?
-
@GoozeFn_PSN I think they work but they aren't reflected in stats.
-
@ryguy034753_XBL What makes you think they work then? When I tried, the ratings weren’t reflecting the boost in game.
