@TRinehart32_PSN said in Is this the real reason for no online franchise:

You’re right franchise players are paying more money in 2025 to not have an extra mode that was once in the game at a cheaper price. That’s a scam for us.

Realistically the only version of the game that could be considered scamdalous is TS18 where players only found out online franchise was gone after buying or preordering the game.

I think that’s what happened, maybe I’m confusing it with season mode though which disappeared in the same year unannounced. I feel like maybe they announced OF being missing before release but after the backlash.

Franchise players aren’t paying more for OF to be missing. They’re choosing to paying more annd expecting all of the additional modes and gameplay updates and improvements and what not.

If anybody has paid for The Show since 2019 expecting to play Online Franchise, that’s on them.

And Custom Leagues was a great addition to the game, back in 2020. Unfortunately it hasn’t evolved since, bugs and all.

I said it in the context of if we want to play a MLB game. This is the only MLB game on the market. We’re not forced to buy it, we’re required to pay whatever price tag they set it to if we choose to play a baseball video game.

I think if 30 people want to come together to fill up a custom league then that’s great. I think if 6 do then that’s cool too. I was just responding to their notion that online franchise wouldn’t work because custom leagues isn’t popular and constantly recruiting. I was trying to say that you can’t really compare the two nor can you predict the outcome of online franchise’s success based off custom leagues, because they are different to the core at release.

Right I don’t think the whole game for everyone is scandalous. We have to keep in mind that this is an online franchise thread and I’m speaking on behalf of that mode. I really think that the other modes are evolving, taking off, and kind of fitting in with that price tag SDS has set. I think custom leagues is a great concept and it could be really great. It’s closer to something like online franchise. But I and others realized once we dove into the mode that it’s quite limited compared.

No one asked for diamond dynasty and they created it. The point in that sentence is that something was created and evolved in a big way every year ever since and no one even asked for it. Players (doesn’t matter if it’s 100 or 10,000) are asking for a mode that once existed to return and they still haven’t done it ever since it departed in 2018.

How can anyone not see the lack of execution from SDS for all players, whilst feeding a specific player base that provides thousands of extra dollars each year in revenue?

I think it could be a factor yes. I’m not saying with certainty, I’m saying it would make sense. I think all these modes can exist together. You could have fantasy draft online franchise. That would obviously pull DD players. Whether it pulls players off of DD or not is not what I’m afraid of. But maybe SDS is. I think online franchise no matter the format would pull players in, but is that what SDS wants? I don’t think so. Cause if they were thinking about the player base, it would’ve been back already.

Now you’re speaking my language. It’s lazy. That’s something that should be a no brainer. Things that used to be there aren’t there anymore that used to be great. I’ve been playing this game since 2008. They were trending up in all areas and now it seems selective and linear in the direction they choose to go each year. Plucking franchise features and modes apart to make space for other things that have completely surpassed franchise.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't want online franchise eventually, but if I'm making a top 50 list of things to improve about Franchise Mode right now, this wouldn't make the list.

That’s a valid statement. Franchise itself needs some improvements. World baseball classic got added to DD for this year, I bet they’ll be stoked.

    @GoozeFn_PSN

Good question. Online franchise is when you choose 1 of 30 MLB teams. Your friends can then choose any team they want. The schedule would reflect the official MLB schedule that is released for the 2026 season just like on regular franchise. Keeping it simple for example, it’s you And 4 of your friends in the online franchise. The other 25 teams will be played and managed by the CPU by default. If I choose the Braves and my friend chooses the O’s, then if those two teams play on the schedule then you must face each other head to head. It’s the same as regular franchise but your friends can physically use their own teams as well and you can all pace through a franchise together and pushing for a playoff run potentially facing in the World Series against each other.

Custom leagues, you don’t have an official MLB schedule. If you only have 5 people total, only 5 teams to play against. They make you face off against only those 5 teams that are being used however many times you set in the league settings. It doesn’t CPU fill the teams that are not being used to make a full 30. So if you want 30 teams you need 30 gamers. Even then you’re required to play every single team 1 to 5 times. It would not be the official MLB schedule that you see in franchise mode.

Somewhat similar, but limited (more reliant on needing 30 gamers) in custom leagues. Less immersive than franchise and when we had online franchise.

@TRinehart32_PSN Seems like an extremely small niche request.

I agree with that because it’s being ignored by mainstream, larger competitors.
I don’t think the market for this is as small as we think it is. It’s not super niching. I think because the focus is specific and it used to be in the game, it brings more dedicated customer loyalty.

@TRinehart32_PSN I just don’t see the need for CPU teams in an online league. Just play a custom league with real players. It doesn’t need to be 162 games and 30 teams.

@TRinehart32_PSN I just don’t see the need for CPU teams in an online league. Just play a custom league with real players. It doesn’t need to be 162 games and 30 teams.

And that's the thing - all three of those things can be set by the administrator and people can opt-in to a league that suits them.

I think the option for CPU teams is a great idea - the league members can agree on how many; it's a great way to participate in the league and play meaningful games whilst between games with other members.

Custom Leagues is a great concept because it caters to both card collectors and those wanting a realistic competition with live players.

Well-managed leagues have been very successful and they are the ones calling for leagues to be improved - not for Online Franchise to be back in its previous format but instead for the many bugs that have been around from the beginning (and some introduced since) but also for improvements to the mode such as a draft (that is the ultimate), minors or injuries.

@Red_Ted_is_back_PSN I don’t have a problem with them doing it. I just don’t think it’s something very many people are clamoring for. I did see a post on X by Scuffy talking about new custom league features that sounded good. Maybe this will be an option.
