My Review So Far of MLB The Show 25, Pt. 3
-
Part 3 boys so let's get into it. This time, I'm going to talk about some of the good things of MLB The Show since I basically covered every bad in my last two posts, which was quite a lot to be honest.
Theme Teams Are an Atrocity
Yes, I did have to start the post off by calling out a glaring issue I left out of my last two posts. Theme teams are in a terrible state right now. SDS is milking teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs, et cetera (@Dolenz_PSN thank you for your post on this topic, definitely helped out) while leaving other teams like the Diamondbacks, Marlins, Rockies, Guardians, and even the Mets, basically out of the picture. For example, the Yankees got 4 new 99s in one singular drop, which was the Signature drop (Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, Andy Pettitte, and Milestone Babe Ruth). I get it, the Yankees have plenty of legends in the game, but teams like the Diamondbacks or Guardians didn't even get a card. This would've been the perfect time to give Steve Finley or Luis Gonzalez a 98-99 for Arizona, or Carlos Delgado a card. And the big reason for this is the extreme lack of Team Affinity content. We've only gotten 3 diamonds for each team from TA all year, which definitely doesn't help. As a matter of fact, plenty of teams don't even have a hitting and pitching captain, which definitely doesn't help. I covered Team Affinity in my first post, so I won't go over it anymore, but I will say that I think they should bring back themed captains into the game. Not only does it add to the player pool, it increases lineup diversity drastically, which we all would love.
The XP Reward Path is Pretty Mid
Only 4 cards in the XP reward path (only 3 of which you can obtain through the path) is never good. And another thing I hate is that they only give you 2 packs in the program. Yeah, you have to go out of your and buy the other player you didn't pick (assuming you kept both). I mean Jesus Christ you don't have to be that [censored] stingy. It's the XP reward path at least give us all three packs. Also, a big topic I see on the forums is the pre-determined wheel spins. Getting a Headliner pack or 5 show packs is very annoying, and I do wish that they at least gave you the choice of your Headliner pack or also threw in a Headliner choice pack. We don't see those anymore. I like to stop my wheel at precisely 3.5 seconds and I usually get some good pulls, so maybe that'll help some of you guys out (no, I can't count precisely to 3.5 seconds. It's just an estimation).
Alrighty, now it's time to go over what SDS is doing right this year.
Player Programs are Good
They're easy, fun, and include some really great cards including the literal best pitcher in the game in my opinion.
Diamond Quest was a Nice Addition
It's not for everyone, and it's definitely not for me, but it was a solid addition to Diamond Dynasty. People complain about not getting the rewards, but hey, that's the [censored] point of the mode. It's all about the chance, there's no guarantee, so stop complaining. It could be better, but it serves it's intended purpose well. It's a roguelike game-mode after all.
We Got a Bunch of Cool Legends
Manny Ramirez, Roger Clemens, Ted Simmons, Jose Bautista, Ted Williams, Carlos Beltran, the list just keeps going and all of these guys have insane DD cards.
Freeze-Offs are Down
I haven't experienced one all year, so that's a sign that they don't occur as frequently as they did last year.
Weekend Classic is Sweaty, but Fun
SDS really did rebound after that calamity which was the first Weekend Classic and now they're a lot better. Can't wait for Friday!
Anyway, I think that's it for my review. There's a lot more bad than good, but this game isn't the worst. I'd put it in a similar tier as MLB The Show 22, which isn't that good, but at least it isn't MLB The Show 18-caliber. I'll give it a C-, or a 4.5 out of 10. -
I agree on the 2 out of 3 free boss packs, but someone commented that this isn't the first year that was done.
I also agree on DQ. I'm not in love with it, but it's a solid new edition. -
I give them credit for adding a new mode in Diamond quest but I refuse to gamble my playtime on a mode that might give me a 50/50 chance of receiving the main reward if I succeed because I can't compete at the higher difficulty levels.
I have no problem with higher difficulties earning more but the odds for playing stadium games on all-star or below are just not worth it to me.

Yeah, what @Dolenz_PSN said. I’ve play DQ four times. Once to get the Soto/Judge cards and twice to get the Easter cards. Played all games in Rookie/Vet and actually enjoyed the Moments/Conquest/showdown aspect BECAUSE I GOT THE MAIN REWARDS at the end.
Played a fourth time (Summer DQ). Worked thru all the tiles and beat the stadium on Vet in 6 innings (lots of shenanigans by CPU)
My reward? A single regular pack! This is ridiculous! I can understand not getting the main reward, but getting TWO BIAH packs is too much? Again, ridiculous.
Unless SDS changes reward structure of DQ, it’s not a mode I will engage in further. The time is not worth the reward as currently set up for the level I play.

@TheBigPapa55_PSN Its been a while but I’m 99% sure this is exactly what the XP Path Reward was like during the inning format before sets and seasons was implemented. The one everyone wanted back.
