So if you're awful at showdowns, any hope of ever getting Rolen, Williams, etc.?

@mietha_MLBTS Collections in general are so bad this year. Every collection behind really paywalls. Most all star cards were in chase packs well over 100k each or in my case the .000001% chance of pulling them. It really is a paywall if you can't pull the card in packs or it takes you a month to get those stubs because the only thing you can pull in 300 packs are 2 85 LS chase packs and 3 of the base models in all the other collections. Spotlight cards and topps now cards the same way. You couldn't play the game and get these. You either needed to get extremely lucky pulling them or pretty much had to buy a lot of them. Ted and Rollins behind these types of cards. Santana and Harper behind the spotlight joke. Beltran and Hodges behind a 650k card. I really hope people hit them in the pocket book next year either by not buying the game or buying a lesser version. In my case the $40 extra dollars I spent on the deluxe version was useless. I could flush $40 down the toilet and get the same return.
I stopped playing this game competitively a few years ago because it is just not worth the headache. I have zero interest in trying to play HOF against clemens, beltran, hodges, castro, santana, harper, ted, mauer, reynolds, posada, randy, baustista, vlad jr, yordan. 300 hours in and I have exactly 1 of these players in clemens. Comical.

@DemIsE4_XBL You should invest in high speed internet. I did and my H2H experience improved tenfold.

If it makes u feel better I pulled Judge week 1 and haven’t pulled a single other card 90 plus from the start date therefore I am not close to finishing even a single division and I play a lot at night and on the weekends

@theBlindRhino_NSW Oh, you mean like Google Fiber? Have it wired in and technically not in my network and still runs like garbage. That's what happens when you match someone p2p over 1000 miles away sharing their wifi with 50 neighbors. Just another reason I play to play. Don't give a [censored] about my record. If the game is playing bad or I'm not having fun I just quit. Learned to accept the game plays like garbage on my wired fiber a long time ago. I literally see faster pitch speeds on all star than I see from these streamers playing legend. I see faster pitch speeds online all star than I do on GOAT against the CPU. I can actually be early on a 98 fastball on GOAT against the CPU and always late on that or 93 sinkers online all star.

@nymets1987_PSN Yea, no chance you are remotely close to Beltran or Ted if that is the case. It is really pathetic this year. Seems like the game is catered to the elite streamers that can play 6 hours a day. Casuals getting [censored] on.

I open so many packs too but it doesn't matter this year because I am an offline player who's casual

@PAinPA_PSN if you cant beat the Spring Break Showdown you might need another hobby. I hate to tell you

I didn't say I couldn't or haven't done it, I have beaten them both.
My advice was tailored to those who haven't or maybe thought they couldn't. -

Every collection behind really paywalls.
Thank you for confirming you have no idea what the definition of 'paywall' is.
-
@LIONED-33_XBL
thank you. Before grinding a showdown, grind custom practice and turn the sliders up. Record yourself playing, get your timing right, come up with strategies based on your feel for certain pitches, where your PCI needs to be, so what works best for you. Ambush when you can to get a little advantage. Practice makes you better in almost everything in life. -
@SaveFarris_PSN Really??? The only way for me to get Beltran and Hodges is spend money at this point. Guess I may get them by September. Only way to get Ted is spend money. I'm sure not getting enough stubs playing to buy him. If the only way you can acquire is something is by spending more money on stubs isn't that a paywall? I can't access any of these people without the stubs or the .000001% chance I pull some of them from a pack. Hell, you can put Santana, Posada, Seager, Clemens, Acuna, Yordan and all the other chase cards, spotlight and topps cards in here too. This model absolutely sucks and I'm pretty sure the majority agrees with me.
Love the fanboys. So clueless on how trash this game is for the majority of players. Before you say don't play I'll leave you with these:
Have more hours in PGA Tour 2k25 than this game which would not be the case if the majority of things were behind PAYWALLS
I love baseball and unfortunately this is really the only game in town
I don't care about my record in an online video game -
@DemIsE4_XBL ou should invest in high speed internet. I did and my H2H experience improved tenfold.

I couldn't give a rat's [censored] about getting the live series rewards before the all star break. Summer packs have already started making stubs more common with the base round going for 4.5k. They are increasing the mount of spotlight packs. Things typically become more player friendly around the all star break and we are already seeing this
I personally hate that there are more pack cards than programs cards and we have weekly chase cards (and even packs now have their own chase cards), its a far cry from just 2 years ago, which was a far cry from 2 years prior.
But its factually incorrect to say any single card in this game is behind a paywall. I would rather punch myself in the balls than grind DQ for stubs, but the option exists and plenty of NMS have Williams (and if you have Williams you almost certainly have Rolen and Beltran)
2K on the other hand, factually paywalls cards. The Show does not. yet. Almost certainly by 2027 though if the current trajectory holds.

That's not the only way. It's the easiest way. It's the quickest way. But it's not the only way.
-
@Teak2112_MLBTS you don’t even need Beltran to get Teddy!
-
Thanks all for the advice. For the record, I'm not complaining about the difficulty of showdowns. Just admitting my difficulty of achieving them, both this season and historically. Although, I have done pretty well in the mini showdowns in the Diamond Quests.
I honestly haven't tried the Spring Breakout one yet because of the initial phase where you had to beat it four times to complete the collection. I'll definitely try it if you only need to do it twice.
And I'll give the Jackie Robinson more shots. I feel like if I could win one of those last two minis, I'd have a good chance in the final.
I was mainly just wondering if y'all thought another Negro Leagues storyline would be coming also to help complete that collection. I'm guessing it will at some point, but hopefully I'll have beaten the showdown by then. -
Storylines is done for the year, but all the players will need 99s at some point. The question is whether they'll count towards the collection.
-
@SaveFarris_PSN Sure if you really want to count doing DQ over and over again.
I will then counter with this. This is a mode where getting the cards that you can sell is not guaranteed unless you can get the GOAT %'s up to 100 and win on GOAT. You have people that can't complete showdowns or struggle with them yet they are supposed to win on GOAT difficulty? Doesn't this boil down to the elite argument I raised as one of the 4 ways to get these collections done?
I have some more hours on PGA Tour 2k25 than I do on MLB The Show 25. PGA Tour is a 2k game. I feel like my time in PGA Tour has been FAR more rewarding than my time in The Show. I have 5 different golfers over 85 rating including my main one at 99. I was able to upgrade my equipment as soon as it was available due to the VC I had earned by playing. I still have over 20k VC in that game despite buying a ton of cosmetics and spending a ton of VC on trying to get my swing right. I have had to buy countless upgrades to test my swing to see what is comfortable for me (even though I still struggle with the EVO swing at times). Point being playing the game has allowed me to do that. I didn't have to grind a mode where RNG was a huge factor on whether or not I got rewarded.
I'm not mad, it is what it is at this point but this game is by far the least rewarding Show I have played. You can't say I want things easy when I have basically every single team affinity to at least 315k. I'm pretty sure I have all the all star vouchers and almost, if not all, of the finest vouchers.
-
I have every DQ card released so far, and every game I've played all year was on Rookie.
-
@SaveFarris_PSN So what you're saying is you have no rebuttal? Getting the DQ cards and having to do them countless times to make stubs for collections (especially if you can't beat the cpu on GOAT) are drastically different things. No idea what the % is for say all star but say it's 40% after you've done the entire map. This depending on how many missions you can win also. There is a greater chance every run for you not getting the reward. Saying you can get collections if you do DQ hundreds of times isn't really a viable option for most people imo.
I bet it took you a while to even get those 2 cards in DQ on rookie.
