@TheDaveyG_NSW Will it be the highest rated card in a month when we can actually get it? This reminds me of the retro lighting cards they did a few years ago. They showed us the card a month before we could get it and it was underwhelming by the time it was attainable. What an awful idea.

And another week of 0 Red Sox. We're now close to 100 TN/Spotlight with 0.

I know the team isn't great but I'm pretty sure they are the only team with 0 for this year.

    @Dolenz_PSN can double check this.

Only because I was sitting down at my computer and was cooling down after some yard work.

Note: These totals may include flashbacks. I saw no way to filter beyond the card type. Also it may not include all of todays cards (I was too lazy to check)

No chance the weekly chase card isnt a 96 or even 97 by then. Its 94 now.

The fact that the Marlins have 5 and the A's have 6, while the Red Sox have 0, shows they don't care.

Yup count me in with the group that thinks grinding for a card for a FULL MONTH is one of the dumbest ideas they've had in a season of dumb ideas.

No one will care about the card by the time it comes out. Even Sosa/Cubs fans will be underwhelmed, knowing a 99 Sosa will arrive. Who knows, maybe they'll even slip a 97 Sosa in there a month later.

@dbub_PSN This actually makes a ton of sense. The teams that don’t have a lot of legends should be getting more of these types of cards.

Or it shows that the Red Sox have 17 other non-LS 85+ diamonds... that's kind of a lot compared to most other teams.

I'm with GoozeFn. It makes sense to me.

Topps now has always been an opportunity for SDS to give rookies and players who might not ever see a higher level card a moment to shine. They have been doing that for years.

Last time I did a count (2 weeks ago) the Red Sox were still tied with the Phillies for the fourth most legends and flashbacks in the game. Oakland and Marlins were further down the list.

Lets look at Red Sox Actual Topps Now Cards

    • 5/25 Marcelo Mayer - He already has an 87 card and Topps Now are only 88 so there is no point.
    • 5/23 Rafael Devers - He already has a 90 card
    • 5/17 Rafael Devers - He already has a 90 card
    • 5/14 Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela - I am not sure SDS ever gives duo Topps Now cards a card in game. Plus this was a defensive moment.
    • 5/7 Alex Bregman - Already has an 88 and a 85
    • 4/26 Jarren Duran - A card for most steals of home - How would that moment work?
    • 4-18 Trevor Story - Literally a 92 overall boss card this inning.
    • 4-15 - Bregman - see above
    • 4/6 Bregman - See above
    • 4/3 Bregman - see above
    • 4/2 Garret Crochet - Has an 85 Live series and an 88 flashback Topps Now
    • 3/29 Kristian Campbell - Already had an 87 Pipeline Card
    • 3/27 Kristian Campbell - Already had an 87 Pipeline Card

That has been all the choices for SDS to pick from for Topps Now for the Red Sox this season. Maybe you can make a case for a Spotlight Card but based on the above I think it is perfectly understandable why they have not gotten a Topps Now card.

I do these weekly programs but dont know why any longer. I never use any of these cards. I liked when it was Topps Now in the past. I don't know, maybe those cards were better when they came out weekly. But these weekly cards right now seem like they get the most obscure players of the week and give them cards. It's like none of the stars who had big weeks get any cards becaus I guess they have to have their LIVE cards mean something.

I have not even started up the game since the update yesterday. Nothing interested me. Sosa is nice but the June 30th date to get the card seems far enough away that I feel like it is not urgent.

Plus I just am not smacking HRs out of the park that often this year so the thought of trying to put together a cubs lineup and play multiple 9 inning games with them trying to hit HRs sounds like torture to this Cardinals fan.

It also seems counterproductive that 20 HRs with Cubs or 20 HRs with RFs are only worth as much as a single moment even though they would take significantly longer for me to accomplish.

I use Topps Now a lot. The cards have always played above their rating for me, and a lineup with 2-4 superstars is more interesting to me than one with 9.

I used the monthly awards in 2023 a LOT. I almost never use the new format past p1. While some of the program capstone choices are fine (Dominguez and Flores for instance) it does seem a bit random. Putting a Yankee with a good but not elite pitching month as the top card though is just insane, especially since it belongs in the monthly awards version next week, not this one. And then there is Langford, 'lead his team in HR and OPS' isnt worthy of being the top card on that monthly track.

I think the live series argument is true, but live series will have value strictly because of Beltran. Then you also have the people that whine when they release 2 cards of the same player, which definitely factors in.

They also artificially limit the number of cards they give out, which is one of my biggest issues with the program.

    • 4-18 Trevor Story - Literally a 92 overall boss card this inning.

Using Trevor Story to back your opinion singlehandedly ruins it. Lol.

Red Sox fans don't give a [censored] about him.

Edit - That card isn't even a Red Sox card! It's a Rockies card. This makes your argument even worse.

Topps now has always been an opportunity for SDS to give rookies and players who might not ever see a higher level card a moment to shine. They have been doing that for years.

Then why so many Yankees? You can't have it both ways. You can't say the Red Sox have zero cards because they're a great team. You also can't say they have zero cards because they're a bad team.

Which is it? And when you have almost 100 cards for a certain theme, not one team should be left out. SDS/Topps can figure out how to balance it better.

There are 91 and 92 Retro Topps Now cards. Maybe when they noticed there was a huge discrepancy between the teams, they could have given the Red Sox a Retro Topps Now.

I'm with you. I love using Topps Now. At least I used to. That's why I've been so adamant about the Red Sox getting one card finally.

yeah it seems like the weekly programs this year are more for people who closely follow their team vs in the past where the topps now/monthly spotlight players were recognized leauge round. Like if Tatis had a huge week, EVERYONE who followed baseball knew about it. Not just Padres fans. So he would get a Topps now card or monthly card.

But like the example you gave, I don't follow the yankees and the reward this week for the Yankee pitcher I have no idea who that guy is. I have no idea why the guy deserves a card. He's another no-name and I have really no interest in getting him or using him. I guess this is the way they're doing it this year which I think makes people lose interest in these weekly programs. Why limit these cards so 1 fanbase out of 30 knows the full story behind him?

I understand that but unfortunately that is not how it works and never has.

I wish the Scott Rolen card was a Cardinal (although I never would have gotten it either way) but that is how it goes. It is understandable to be disappointed. Imagine my disappointment last year when they gave Matt Holliday a 99, a 91 and an 87 Rockies card while the Cardinals only got an 84 version.

I gave the logic they most likely used to justify not putting any of those cards in the game. I'm sorry if you don't agree but I am betting that I am right.

I never said that. I said that all the cards that Topps Now has actually released for the Red Sox were good players who already had diamond cards. Judge, Bellinger, and Fried all have gotten Topps Now cards too but SDS won't put those cards in the game either for the same reason.

You mention the Yankees Cards - Lets take a look at what Topps Now cards they have gotten.

Jorbit Vivas - Rookie - Topps now card for First HR (Has a 64 live series card)
JC Escarra - Rookie - Topps now for first HR (has a 68 live series card)
Austin Wells - For first opening day leadoff HR in Yankees History
Ben Rice - A flashback 2024 card (78 Live series)

I complain about the over abundance of Yankee cards as much as anyone but Vivas and Escarra especially fit the profile SDS has followed for years now with highlighting rookies and players with lesser cards who might not see any other chance for a boosted card this year.

See, I disagree here. Monthly spotlight programs typically had a lot of lesser known players, and yes a few well known players. The final April program had Langford, Alonso, and Weaver in it. I suspect the May program to have the same

And I want to know about those lesser guys. Its why Topps Now is awesome.

On one hand, Warren has pitched well this month and gotten a lot of Ks. on the other hand he has 1 QS out of 5. Absolutely awful choice give Dominguez and Grisham exist already
