Right there with you, each year my reflexes have declined and with it my desire to play online. Last year I played less than 50 ranked games, barely any BR and zero events. With 25, so far I've played zero multiplayer modes, and I'm not quite sure I will.
I still love the game and continue to grind offline, I'm definitely digging Diamond Quest

I’m 53 - I’m not 20 years old anymore but I still feel like I can compete. Of course - not at the top levels but I don’t play as much due to a career and family, the outdoors, etc.
My desire to play online definitely started to decline due to various issues dating back to The Show 23. Outside of a few Battle Royale games in The Show 24 (XBSX), I stopped playing online modes altogether. It wasn’t fun … waiting to find an opponent only to end up being matched against a-holes who constantly pause for a split second repeatedly or people who quit if they gave up a 2-run HR. What’s the point? Packs and player cards are fine but I enjoy the competition even if I lose. I also never liked the slight lag involved when batting online (hardwired gigabit connection). Mostly due to the a-holes from past experiences, I haven't touched an online mode in The Show 25 and probably won’t. It’s not worth the stress or the grind.
Regarding the OP’s comments on hitting - something feels off in the new game. There’s far too many bugs (Xbox) that haven’t been fixed and, more often than not, it feels like batters are swinging one of those flimsy “pool noodles” (that help people float). For example, I was trying to finish the Yankees Team Affinity program and had Anthony Volpe at Shortstop (very average hitting attributes). I hit a soft grounder to shortstop for an easy out - it didn’t sound like solid contact at all (barely made a sound on contact).
The post-pitch hitting feedback info showed that I hit a slightly inside fastball with good timing and the center PCI dot was just on the top edge of the baseball. I don’t have an issue with the ground ball (though other players have hit line drives on similar contact and pitch location) but it felt like one of the most unrewarding at-bats I’ve ever had. Contact sounded worse than a foul ball and the exit velocity was lower than the pitch speed! And, of course, Volpe hit a HR in his next at-bat with the center PCI well below the ball and slightly off center.
It seems like the game took quite a few steps backwards this year and they created new problems that didn’t exist in prior years.
Specific to hitting, I can’t help but wonder if they made it feel worse now so new cards with increased attributes in the future will feel better in comparison. Artificial improvement with no effort on their end to fix anything…
Sorry for the long comment. -
Could be cope but in all honesty this game is a mess and always has been. 4 years ago I lived in a place that I would routinely disconnect from for no reason unlike the house previous or after. Only this game no other game. My fault obviously.
Now for 25 my nearly brand new PS5 overheats every game and yes you guess it, no other game overheats when I play it. Not even Marvel Rivals causing $3000 PCs to crash has issues.. There is always something with this game, where you live, your internet, the ping, if your player has dreadlocks, it’s just poorly optimized.
The one bright side that isn’t being talked about much on here (not a big comp scene on this forum) is the weekend classic is full of insane rewards, and even in the middle ranks. So even if you can’t make WS anymore, you can find a tier you’re competitive in and compete for some pretty insane rewards at the end of the season. The market crash is going to be biblical.

I think the time has come boys: I'm Washed. The last few years I've been a WS player ( I play a lot so not that impressive) every season. I usually hit .360-.370 per season and hit well on HOF and ok on Legend. So far this year I'm horrendous. I hit more "very early" foul balls then follow it with a very late on the next pitch than anyone in history. I just moved to a new apartment so I'm holding out hope that it's the WiFi causing me to be trash, but that may just be a cope. In all seriousness, does anyone know if playing on 5 gHZ vs automatic makes a difference? I kept crashing when I had it set to automatic, set it to 5 gHZ, now I'm terrible. Could just be a cope though like I said.
Wired; always wired.

The fact we all have to use monitors, wired controllers, kontrol freeks, and precision rings just to play this game should tell us all we need to know about the subpar design and gameplay.

About to turn 48 with declining vision and reflexes, time has a way of catching up with us all. Just have to have fun with the game and cuss at it at the same time
-
I fought to score 4 runs on Vet in a vs CPU game.
Time catches up with everyone and my time is now
-
Lol tries on rookie against the starter....it seems when you knock out the starter then suddenly you are able to get hits and score after struggling so long
-
As long as you play against the CPU the game is fine. Up to Hall of Fame level and I can win pretty easily. Anything against another human player and everything goes out the window. Online is complete trash, just like it has been for several years. I was hoping this year was going to be different, but I guess I'm bailing on this when Forza releases on the playstation in April.

About to turn 46. I would say i was previously a slightly better than average player. Almost 900 in ranked, about 2 wins for every loss in BR and events but this year i feel like i have no chance unless i match up with someone who is completely clueless at the game. We should start an old timers league.

Each year, I understand Kevin Garnett more and more after his prime. He became slower and angrier because he wasn't that guy anymore. Mentally you're there, but your body isn't. Father time always wins.
-
Well I tend to squint more at the tv than anything.....last in the family to not wear glasses but I think time is ticking away of that one. This year I can barely tell when the breaking balls break, like Serrano I can hit the fastball but can't touch the curve
-
I just turned 49. I bought a monitor and it has helped.....but, my skills are gone. I no longer play online in a competitive setting. Mini Seasons for me all day has filled the void of online play.
