90% of the storyline is about how fast he was. Getting in bed before the lights go out, Jesse Owens not wanting to race him, etc.
I was excited when I finished his story and unlocked his card…only to see his speed attribute is 89!!! Hahahahaaaa what is going on here??!!

@Area_Man__PSN They continue to have this cool thing and they continue to make the cards so underwhelming no one uses them. The cards aren’t good and there’s no program or reason to grind with them. A gigantic failure 3 years in a row.

@GoozeFn_PSN The core purpose of Storylines The Negro Leagues is not the cards. They are just the ‘thanks for taking the time to educate yourself about the history of baseball’ gratuity. Many players wouldn’t take the time without some kind of extrinsic carrot.

If anything, what they’ve done with Storylines is the complete opposite of a fail. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s their most successful non-financial business goal in 20 years of The Show.

@Red_Ted_is_back_PSN I didn’t say the storyline was a failure. The storylines are great. I’m saying the negro league cards are a failure because they don’t give us a reason to ever use them. I want to use them, but I’m not going to use a card that’s bad and doesn’t have a grinding purpose.

@GoozeFn_PSN yeah my bad I misinterpreted. I didn’t even acknowledge your opening statement where you gave Storylines credit. My apologies.

I can see where you’re coming from, but not all cards are created to be used by the masses.

There are hundreds of cards in the game and there will be people who choose all sorts of cards for their own reasons. I’m not into DD at all, but I expect sometimes those reasons will be dictated by SDS (is this how events works?).

But also sometimes those reasons will be user-centric (eg if I played DD then David Wright would be my permanent 3rd baseman). Or some people will be using the Storylines rewards for getting the P5 status or whatever it is.

So I wouldn’t call the cards a failure.

@Red_Ted_is_back_PSN BUT, why wouldn’t SDS want us to use these cards? It’s a cool thing they are doing and this might be the last year. I believe it was a 3 year deal. Why wouldn’t you want the masses to use those cards? I want to want them.

@GoozeFn_PSN because they are too easily acquired - the most desirable ones need to be rare so that people have to give up either an obscene amount of money (buying stubs to buy on the marketplace or buy packs in hope) or an obscene amount of time (grind grind grind) to attain them.

That’s my interpretation of it anyway. Like I said, I don’t DD so I’m standing on the outside looking in.

They should just let them accumulate stats for all teams thus they would be in demand cards and you would spread the history about them. Such an easy buy unlikely fix. They get used as much as free agent cards especially with the team affinity goals

@Red_Ted_is_back_PSN I’m not even asking for the storylines rewards to be better. I just want better versions of those cards. How about their own TA or program where you can use those cards to grind for better ones? Even last year, outside of John Donaldson, I didn’t use any of those cards.

Ramone said is clearly right at the end of pre-launch stream. Your gonna need to grind and use these gold cards if you want to get the better versions of them. If I interrupt that correctly, it sounds like there will be a future program of some kind with these players that requires you the get stats with their gold cards. We shall see.

Still should be more usable especially with team affinity demanding team stats....so why couldn't they have dropped a negro league team affinity goals with the gates be gibson homeruns, rbi and runs, paige win and strikeouts plus all other stats from the league. Sounds like a very interesting concept and would get their cards used more

@ebbets1957_XBL My memory of that stream is that he said we will need to grind the storyline for a collection.

@ShadowWalker166_XBL Yeah, they could have made them a little better too. 80’s with the final guy 83? The storylines can take a while. We’re getting 87’s for a couple hours of team affinity grinding. They easily could have been 83’s with the final reward being an 85 or even better honestly.
