Directional vs. zone

Directional hitters are why this game is grooving our pitches over the middle with perfect release. It’s their only real chance to get decent hits.
Just sit back and push one button when the game overrides your opponents input and serves you up some meatballs.
Amen terrible. @sds needs to fix this. Higher divisions should be zone only

I've been saying for years that zone hitting should be enforced in the online game modes. Just like you can't use guess pitch, I think everyone who wants to play Ranked Seasons, BR or Events should be forced to use zone hitting. If you're not very good at it, it would be a great chance to improve your game. If you absolutely don't want to use it, stick to custom leagues or play offline entirely.
Unfortunately this will most likely never happen, because it would turn away those mediocre/bottom players who just don't want to improve.

I use directional and usually finish in low 800s. I’m sure there are people who use it and finish much higher. Regardless of winning/losing, I prefer it bc I don’t like that ugly pci on the screen, game looks so much better without that fake stuff on the screen.
Lol you know you can just put the PCI to “off”
Yes, I realize that. I just prefer directional bc it’s more realistic.
Must be hard to sit on something over the middle Sean. Timing is everything in baseball lol gtfoh realistic. More like easy

Why do you want to force zone hitting in online? If directional is inferior (which seems to be the majority thought) to zone shouldn’t that give you a better chance of winning? By the way I use zone hitting.

Not always. Especially in BR, where the ratings sometimes matter more than the user skill. So a guy who is well known with directional hitting and has a decent eye to lay off pitches can be successful there. It also induces people who just sit back and wait for that 1 hung pitch that will inevitably come at some point, they press X once at the right time and they can destroy your deep run if you lineout and flyout on good input consistently. That is not skill and there is no place for it in an online competitive environment IN MY OPINION.

Was told it’s also hard to hit low pitches using directional. Any reason why? I’ll more than likely stick with zone, but it’s worth knowing at least.

Any good players using directional hitting? I’m on the worst run of my life right now and considering a change. Was told that once you get to a certain level of RS, that directional is useless. Any advice would help! Thanks
People will come in here trying to shame you for using directional. Ignore them...Give it a try if you want but I’ve heard from people that have used it in the past and they say it’s been nerfed in 20. I would recommend trying analog before directional. Personally I would stick with zone but maybe try a different batting camera or pci. Good luck!

Not true ...i've used directional and missed pitches down the middle with good timing.

If a dude hangs a pitch down the middle, and you can't place your PCI on it, how does that....I can't even follow this logic.

Analog and Directional are the exact same thing. Analog allows you to pick a direction with the right stick as you swing, directional allows you to pick a direction with the left stick as you hit a button.
Those of you who think directional is a centered PCI are very confused. That explains the entire thread of misunderstandings. PCI is superior, just because the computer doesn't decide your contact quality.
In directional, the computer decides your PCI placement based on the stats of the card, and good ole fashion RNG.

It's okay dude, nobody will hold that against you.

if you use directional, you have to sit when you pee

To all those who say Zone should be mandatory for online play, AGREED. And I’m one of those guys who always sAid I never had the patience for zone settings and stuck with pure analog until this year. Truly no better feeling than a solid perfect perfect when your opponent is dotting the corners. If you ask me, Zone with pure analog is as “realistic” as it gets. I personally don’t understand how directional is realistic but hey, we’re all entitled to our own opinion. At the end of the day fellas, enjoy the GAME. Variable settings are what mKe the game fun for all.
On that note... Bring back the NCAA College Baseball games.

Ughhh...this...and when the game starts bailing them out with check swings on the offspeed in the dirt

I use zone plus analog stride exclusively. I love it!!

directional takes much less skill

Are you a troll? Commenting this nonsense on a thread that hasn't been active for 4 months.

I use zone but I suck at it. Most guys that are good with it have 500+ hours played, they use a monitor and special thumbsticks on the controller. If that doesn't sound like you, do what makes you comfortable
-
Your really better off taking an afternoon with zone hitting practice on the max settings. Its really going to suck at first but once you go back to online its like everythings in slow motion. Set your camera angle to strike zone and you can see everything. Everyone's different but I like starship outer, fishbowl inner and diamonds center. Have the outer dissapear and the fade at like 40%. it will make the game so much easier for you.
