I’m the worst hitter ever
-
This morning I’ve determined that I really cannot hit. Zone, directional or timing- I’m not getting it. Rank in the high 300s or so. And yes, I’m not custom practicing. My cards are good, but none from BR because I just can’t compete.
So, how long did it take for you to get better at hitting? Was the custom practice necessary? If so, did you find a way to make that fun? -

It’s easier to hit against the cpu than opponents who breathe. I suck online, I mean, really suck, but I hold my own against the cpu.
You can work your way up the difficulty ladder and then try head to head again when you think your ready.

@Blind_Bleeder Yes. Sometimes I really rake against the CPU and other times, it cracks down on me. I can win on rookie and vet settings but really struggle on all-star and higher (although I can win on legend). It seems pitching is right where I want it to be but I go online and get lit up.
I am clearly overmatched when hitting online. They say pitch recognition comes with experience. I thought I would have seen a difference by now. -

It does come with time. To get better at it, play the more difficult levels in vs CPU. The batting timing window is different in head to head, plus you have to deal with the other person's internet connection. The ball looks like it's coming in slower, but it's not, so it's an illusion. That's what gets me - the timing in online play. If you can win on legend, then it is probably just a matter of time before you adjust to the batting window in online play. Keep at it and have fun!
Maybe @sbchamps can give you some hitting pointers on the Switch.

I wish I could but I'm just as bad.
I did the Easter Egg Program with the 3 games I needed to online now I'm right back to offline only except when I want to test my self online but lately I can't even find a match up on Nintendo switch ( cross play is turned off) I have been playing all the conquest games on veteran difficulty but still stick with rookie in mini seasons because I tried veteran in mini seasons and got shutout because to me it's so much harder to hit there -
Thanks guys. To be clear, I don’t expect to dominate my first season. I’m enjoying this game immensely. I just want to be progressing to where I can help carry the co-op team occasionally and not be so dependent on the better players.

I just had a thought. Have you tried the Switch Pro controller? That helps me hit on my Switch. I don't know how many of the guys here use it though.

I play on Nintendo switch lite so a controller won't work for me
Don't ask how I do it because I have no idea -
I don't know about the switch but if you're on xbox or Playstation get a monitor. I'm mid level player but before I got a monitor I absolutely sucked . I remember mlb 22 I remember thinking if I could get to 75 wins before I get to 100 losses would be great. Lol.
Last year I was like 100 wins and like 70 losses , not great but way better . -
Play offline at AS minimum.
Set your view to one of Strike Zone or other variants (1,2,3, high, low)
Take pitches. Don’t swing until you have 2 strikes. Do this vs the CPU to start to wear them down and get the speed/break down.
Online, watch for tendencies. Most people go real life mode so it gets easy to pickup: heat inside, breaking/offspeed low and away. The CPU is a bit more random but will serve cookies plenty.
Don’t be afraid to take online in 0-2 counts, people will throw junk. Sometimes anchoring your PCI up and in on 2 strike counts is not a bad idea, especially if your opponent notices you’re always late on hard stuff up and in.
The rest is mostly experience. Play RS to grind innings for the program, gain experience and notice trends, and take pitches until you figure it out/frustrate your opponent and pick up on his tendencies.
Focus on the release point and find a spot in the batter’s eye where the release is and focus there; draw the angle from release to where you want the pitch in your head. Sometimes when I struggle, I anchor my PCI as close to the release point I can to reset myself. Follow the pitch with your PCI without swinging.
As you practice and get clobbered, use cards you like instead of the top ones or meta ones, it’ll make the game more enjoyable as you toil your way out of mediocrity.
Good luck!

@Blind_Bleeder Had purchased the 8bitdo ulocontroller. I like the custom ability and performance so far. Keeping this suggestion in mind, thx.

@yankblan On it. Thx for the tips!

Play on Hall of Fame as much as you can.

play around with your pitch view , find the one that works best for you , a view that you can see the pitcher so you can see the release but not too close so you have time to see what the pitch is doing as its on its way , sounds like you just need to donate some play time in figuring out your setup is all , once you find it its good to go for the future installments
also try directional hitting , its simple but gives you control , for instance if the shift the field you can aim the ball to the non shift side , easy double 75% of the time , but if not sold on directional , just donnate time to figure what is best for you , button is simple sure , but doesnt offer any improvement , directional can be had after a few games as well , for me pulse is the worst
