This season format could hurt stub sales
-
I know the general idea is these season formats are SDS's way of getting people to spend and buy more stubs but I think this years format could hurt that.
I have a good team right now and have a pretty good idea of who I would use for wild cards. I know I won't use Satchel as a wild card, and I have the other two cards so Im not locking in any more collection cards. Anything I get now I'm selling. I have about half a million stubs now and there are cards on the market I'd like to try but I know I wouldn't use any as wild cards so Im staying away. So Im pretty much staying out of the market for the next 3 weeks. I don't spend extra money on the game anyway but Im sure there are people who normally do but are sitting back now because most cards will be somewhat useless in a few weeks. Maybe SDS makes it up when the next season drops but I assume the market will be pretty slow for a few weeks. -
I am staying away from Satchel for the same reasons (plus he does not count for TA-progress)
They have to put in incentives for us to do collections. I am sitting on 95 sellable cards (including Marte) but I am not sure if I want to clear it rn… it all depends on the incentives ️
But, btt. I am pretty sure they know what they are doing. You are not doing seasons two years in a row if the benefit is not there.

@YOSHI24 I agree with that but I wonder if the changes to this years seasons will hurt them. Last year season one cards carried into season 2 so Id be buying and trying a ton of cards right now. This year with the longer seasons and no real carry over Im sitting out the next few weeks.

It definitely hurts stub sales directly. It's meant to increase sales indirectly by keeping people engaged longer and giving a good entry point for players midseason. I have a feeling its not working as they intended.

I agree, as long as users don't bite on the shop packs and buy stubs to get them. Personally, I don't buy stubs and haven't purchased a single pack this year - which is unusual for me because I have liked to go after the Chase cards in the past.
Down the road, I think this format will hurt game sales more than market stubs. Once people figure out there are cards they won't be able to obtain, it will turn them off. People who have asked me about this year's game (because a lot of people know I play) have gotten negative reviews and I've told them to skip this year and play something else. It would be very interesting to see the financial balance sheet for SDS this year compared to last year at this time.
What has ruined this year for me more than the Seasons format is the lack of XP - and I don't mean the cap because I haven't hit it a single session so far. They have cut the amount of earned XP back so much that it feels like there is no point to even playing a game.

I wasn’t a whale, but I never minded spending money on the game, I have a real job, so finishing the live series or buying a card I really wasn’t an issue, the sets and seasons model ruined it for me, because I don’t want to spend money on cards that have a shelf life (yes I know cards would get outpaced in the previous model, however if I could make the call whether I wanted to keep using a card or not. I went from spending $400-500 a year, to zero.

@baseball229056 But what if the first stub sale comes with some „nice packs“ at the beginning of season 2? … Again: SDS is not some random people new in the business making money with a video game. It could be, it could not (I tend to the „not“-side )
