Captains 2024 Improvements

Agreed, but Captain cards are terrible. Not many would use the Captains if they were not able to take them out in the first inning. They need to improve the Captain base attributes, along with enforcing the rules for them. -

They need to improve the Captain base attributes, along with enforcing the rules for them. But, if they take the captain card out, in the 1st inning or prior by using a better duplicate, are they really playing with the Captain card? No, they're abusing the exploit.
Set it that they lose the attributes for the other players, if an ACTUAL Captain card isn't used, or get rid of them completely.

To me Captain should be an attribute you can add to any card, similar to equipment. There can be different types of Captains like there are today. Such as Team, Tall, Short, etc.. The amount of the boosts could be tied to the parallel level of the player.

I may be in the minority but I actually enjoy the captains cards. I just wish they had done much more with them. More variety was needed. Give me random things, Birds of Prey Captain (Cards, Orioles, Blue Jays), December Birthdays, 20/20 Club Captain.
There is so much that could be expanded on.
They started off well with Grizzled Veterans (Ryan), 50 Homer Club (Sosa) and East Divisions pitchers (Halladay) but then completely dropped that approach afterwards. Those are the captains we should have seen more of. Not just team based captains.
Give me more of these instead of Diamond Duos next year. Break out two new captains each pack.
I liked it when they used to use some of these parameters for event lineups/requirements. Events this year have been pretty stale IMO.

@Bearsfan217 are you saying dd should be arcade style? Easy to hit home run stadiums and captain boost for cards that are already good? Why don’t they just have different game modes, one with all the goofy arcade stuff you probably like and one for more realistic style baseball while still being able to collect cards and compete programs and events and sell and buy in the market? Why do people who actually like baseball have to play in 300ft walls 5000ft elevation stadium with captain boost and hit 5 home runs every inning off of inside cutters or inside sinkers all game long.. there is absolutely no strategy involved, everyone does the same exact thing when you play in a shield woods park type stadium… it gets old after playing 30 of 50 games in the same stadium against the same unoriginal opponent strategy…. Boring
-
DD is arcade style, did you think it was sim? Good grief
-
@Bearsfan217 Homie this mode started out as real. It's gone over the edge the past few years.
-
This mode has been Fantasy baseball for long time, that what it is. Ive been playing since day 1. Always been an arcady Fantasy type mode. That's the entire concept of Diamond Dynasty lol.
You keep talking sim sim sim. Go play Online Rated , or join a sim online league. Or play offline franchise league those are the options. Thats as close as you are going to get to sim

I see the "proceed with caution" idea that SDS had this year with Captains, BUT the one type of captain that has never been abused the entire year was Team Captains. They could have easily made the 99 Tim Raines card we got from Set 5 collections the team captain and gave him the captain boost that his Captain card had, and people still would not have used it or had an advantage with it. The reason is because you need 9 other Nationals to make it viable. You just don't see any team that has enough good players to run it outside of fun theme teams. This is in comparison to using these elite god squad cards that have been released, and they do not hold a candle. As a matter of fact, the only viable captains this year have been the ones that boost the mega teams to even higher numbers.
On a side note though, how interesting would it be to see someone running a competitive all White Sox team in Ranked Seasons and people get upset because it is overpowered.

I use the Tim Raines Captain card everytime I run a Nationals squad...dude makes darn near the entire team 99 Speed and 99 Base Stealing

@GixxerRyder750 I think there are definite perks, but I think they could have used a juiced up Tim Raines card (the 99 perhaps) as captain and the team would not have been that different and it would definitely not be unbalanced or unfair.
There seemed to be the idea to keep the captains at a lower rating (92-95) because there was a fear that they could be too powerful??? It just makes them irrelivant.
Going forward next year, maybe make the captains 99s, BUT make it so they have to be on the team they are boosting. Captains should have to be in the lineup.
