Here's why I won't play Showdown again

So I wanted Ottavino from the Career Program. The second to last boss was Patrick Corbin and I literally get robbed and wasted over 1 hour of my morning.
I hit a ball with Matt Carpenter that went over the wall just right of CF. The CPU outfielder had half his body above the wall to make the catch. The wall is almost 8 ft. tall. It's the first robbed HR I've seen since playing, but of course you don't see this goofy stuff online.

The kicker was Corbin throwing 5 straight sliders to one of my batters. Another reason I don't like playing offline is the baseball IQ of the CPU. Who programmed the CPU? There's no thinking along with that nonsense. We've all seen the 2 outs, slow guy on 1st base and CPU will throw over 3 times in a row...

Showdown has been pretty easy this year. Most of them I got done in my first go around. Actually all of them this year I got done in my first go around. They really dumbed it down this year.

Didn’t dumb it down enough lol
I just do the repeatable pxp mission to complete and happy with that

@LuvMyXBOX I don't appreciate the mind games and wasting my time. I breezed through them all up until Corbin. 7 in a row or something. After the CPU robbed the home run Superman style his confidence got boosted and I started swinging away. It seems that if I don't take til 2 strikes then no matter how well my input it's always an out. Smoked right at them. Always. It's not my cup of tea.

Bunt cheese. Works every time.

I’m no good at showdowns either buddy and you’ll find that we’re certainly not alone in this so pay no mind to what some others say as you have those kind of people everywhere in life. What’s relevant is your experience and only that. I’ve never personally tried the bunting technique that is so effective but I have seen it mentioned enough times to see that it must truly work and if you look at the perks available in your draft cycles it does seem like they have designed it with at least that as an option. For me I always go straight for the perk that kicks in after making three consecutive outs lol because I know that’s going to be a thing so long as I’ve got the controller in my hand haha but keep tryin and you’ll get it man

It must be a different mindset or skillset or something when people play the CPU. I still have a hard time comprehending people who say that they are good players online while having so many issues with showdowns and moments.
I've said it before, I am a center swinging, semi casual player who rarely plays above Veteran and never plays online. While I can't say that I got all of the showdowns done on the first attempt I have gotten the majority done on the first attempt. At least the ones that I have attempted (I don't do them all).
Since perks were mentioned. I always go for Rally Time or Hero Time. One is exit velocity boost while losing, which you often are, and the other is an exit velocity boost in the 7th inning or later which is every single showdown. I also try and keep a Speed guy on the bench. If I get a slow runner on second I sub them in so that I can make sure I can advance on a fly ball or score on a hit.

I think it has to do with the fact that when you play the cpu, the cpu actually plays 'baseball'. Humans on the other hand in online play - 'play to win by all costs' . Which most of the time isn't playing 'baseball'.
There are so many ways to exploit this game online that when people from online come to offline and realize the cpu won't make illogical baseball decisions as a human would, that is where the dropoff in succeeding offline begins.

You've lost your mind. Especially this line, "the cpu won't make illogical baseball decisions as a human would"
This is exactly why I don't like playing the CPU. They have zero baseball IQ.
Example: 2 outs. Guy with 53 speed on 1st base. The CPU pitcher will throw over to 1st base three times in a row thinking I'm stealing. Note that I haven't even lead off at all.
I watched Corbin throw 5 straight sliders to me in the Showdown I lost. Last I knew throwing the same pitch over and over makes that pitch worse in this game.
It's not a secret that Showdowns will screw you in a heartbeat.

There’s no reason to be rude just because you disagree. Think about what he said for a minute. There’s an argument for both sides and why shouldn’t there be. Compare the two and see which is more correct. I once had a guy throw me thirty straight balls in the dirt of which I swung at the first one. After what became the last attempt the guy quit. Ever watch a major league game or even a t ball game where every single player bunts? Sure the cpu does stupid things too but have you ever stopped to think that it might be to give you a better chance at winning?
Baseball is a game where elite players hit a hit three out of ten times the last time a player got four out of ten was Ted Williams which occurred a couple of months before Pearl Harbor was attacked and he’s considered a god. Point being is that if the game played TRULY like real baseball then this forum would be so full of people cursing the game they’d probably have to lock us all out. -

This is exactly how I play as well. I usually choose the “Eagle Eye” boost also.

@Dolenz
I have a question about those after 7th inning perks. Since there isn't an actual "inning" displayed on the screen when you are batting how, or when does the "7th inning" start?

@BxnnyMxn_
Being rude? Lighten up.

Great question. They should have removed that, since we don't do pitching in Moments anymore.

Since the word 'later' is in the description, and you only need to score one more run than what the cpu has, even though you have more than 3 outs, you're technically batting in the bottom of the 9th.

That is how I understand it. Every batting situation is essentially the bottom of the 9th in showdown.

In all fairness you also have to look at the runners steal and baserunning aggression not just speed. Look at 2023 All Star Kyle Tucker for example, 58 speed, 82 steal and 92 baserunning aggression.
The CPU won’t try and go 2nd to home on a 4-3 grounder resulting in an easy double play which several humans tried on me when I played online.
