Ideas for Sets and Seasons Next Year
-
I appreciate SDS making the effort to do something different this year and how this new model has provided the framework for them to release more quality content more often. I also see how unpopular this change has been with the community; people have be whining all year about cards becoming ineligible in ranked, about the inevitable recycling of legends and flashbacks as we got deeper into the season, and how they feel like the grind is to much to repeat every two months especially for cards that expire. I think there are solutions out there that would allow SDS to keep the sets and seasons model next year while also making big changes in a effort to appease their loyal patrons.

Instead of a wild card slot that allows you to keep 1 card from the expired sets they could instead force us to use 7 cards total from the current new set in our lineup. 3 batters and 4 pitchers; 2 starters and 2 relievers and 3 batters from any position. This allows us to keep a core of cards we love and “grind” for while at the same time forcing up to give the new guys looks and the perpetual roster decisions that will come of that as the year goes on and there are more and more goon cards to choose from.
-
Make Captains 99’s out the gate; there is no reason captains need to be the worst players attribute wise in our lineups and you shouldn’t be forced to leave 99’s out of you theme team in order to play the captain because it’s the same name( ie Machado Season 1).
-
For the purpose of flexibility of theme teams, allow an option to switch a cards team to any team that guy has played for. They have done this in Madden and I think it would make it easier to field competitive theme teams given captain boosts are tiered by number of players
-
TA cards should be 99’s all year. 97 overall Willie Mays cards shouldn’t be a thing and I think it’s ok if we get rewarded with decent cards while we complete the TA program given TA programs are the most time consuming in the game.
Just a few ideas to kick around. I’m probably overlooking some pitfalls here let me know what you guys think

I hope they don't go down this road again, but if they do, I would like to see an added filter.
I play offline, so I don't care about cards expiring, but all the duplicate cards are crazy. I see the need for it, but grinding for a card that you just got last season, and it isn't as good as the previous one, contributes to the programs being tiresome.

I want a setting to turn off Diamond Card animation from Pack Pulls. Or at least a Skip option...I can't stand sitting and waiting to watch that Purple come through the smoke...

Just hit square and it will flip the card.

They won't make all TA cards 99s. They want to limit the number of 99s that are 'free' so when they throw packs in the shop, with 99s, people will want to spend money to get them.

Captains should only be core.
If they keep sets. Keep it simple. And fewer duplicate cards. Please. Maybe Set 1,2,3
But they’re over 3 or 4 months. You can only use Set1 and core for the 3 months. When set 2 starts you have 2 weeks or something to get rid of your set 1s.
Allow 3 wildcards -

No go on 3 for me. Madden also had games with no players maybe we can do that. Lol.
Jim Thome was a pinch hitter, and bad at it, for the Dodgers so having him come out there on a Dodgers theme team wouldn’t fly.

I would make Seasons tie in with a salary cap system in ranked and as seasons progress the cap is increased. It allows for more strategy. Power attributes/bunters could cost more against the cap than contact hitters and sinker/outlier pitchers cost more than fastball/control pitchers, etc. It would be a way to balance the meta and add diversity to teams that you'd play. Captains that could reduce the penalty against cap for players that are on that captain team.
Then for tribute cards or certain programs they can give a low cap hit or for out of season card a higher cap hit. There are a lot of options they could adjust through the year and seasons could shift the meta throughout the year keeping it fresh.
Then have events as the god squad mode where you can use any player from seasons and keep it more arcade-style.

"Doing something different" does not equal better, and actually it can make things far worse. The Sets and Seasons were a clever way to increase revenue, nothing more.

I’ve played DD religiously since 2019. I have never had less of a need for stubs than I have had this year. The best cards are collection cards and you only have to collect 220 cards in 2 months to get all the collection cards. This is all while they release like 10-30 new free cards every week. If you want to see a clever way of increasing revenue try nba 2k24 and be grateful SDS is still light years away from that model

But then you have to play a garbage sport so pass.

If sets and seasons returns in the same form as this year I’m tapping out for the first time since 2012. Too many diamonds, too many recycled players, too many cards in general. Everyone looks the same. There’s no longer a sense of accomplishment for getting that 99 legend because there’s either 5 of him or there’s 50 other cards with similar attributes.
I like to build a team and use that team. There’s so much going on, so many programs, you spend your entire time grinding for that “next” player and never get to use your “main” team. I give SDS credit for trying something new but it’s not the way.

That is what I couldn't stand the most. I want to use my Main team more, like in past years.

I play more than almost everyone and I could go days without touching my main team.

I’m working thru Pennant Chase, Career Tribute, and all Postseason programs. I can’t even begin to remember the last time I played with my “main squad”.
Definitely a fault in the game, IMO.

So I think there is a path to make sets and seasons work but it requires new thinking from SDS.
RS - there needs to be two different RS. You need the in season RS and you need the all out RS. All out is no restrictions just OG RS God squad work to WS, there is no program you just win to get to WS and it has its own WS reward. In season RS is what we have now with the program reward path.
Events for the love of all that is good make events actually events, no more of this mini RS stuff actually require the use of different cards heck how did we not get Core events this year to earn core cards? Make it so this is where you have to use cards that are not widely used like Vet and 2nd half series only
Everything else I think works as normal RS is just was made it kinda wonky
