donaldson's forkball
-
i am absolutely hopeless against this thing
anybody else have consistent trouble with it?
-
Consistent trouble hitting yes, but used as a pitcher off his fastball is great

Ya gotta sit on it. Even if it means looking like a fool for a few at bats because if that’s the only thing you’re looking for it looks like a giant pumpkin floating in there and you also know to anticipate the drop also which is an enormous pci advantage for you because as soon as you recognize it you can just about predict the point in space at which this ball is going to cross the plate so just make sure you have your barrel there to meet this point of convergence.
You gotta ignore everything else out of his hand if you want to moida the old trident pitch(...made that up me'self)

great advice
i am helpless against it because i'm trying not to get beat by the fastball
this game, especially ranked seasons, can be so hard sometimes
ugh

The idea is... if he's getting you out with forkballs, wait for it — even if it means making some bad-looking outs on the other pitches — so you can hit the forkball a time or two and make him afraid to throw it. Then you can start looking for the other pitches for a while before he eventually decides to try the forkball again, then rinse and repeat.

Donaldson is the best pitcher in the game. I’m hopeless against him, too. Just faced him for 9 innings. I got two hits and no runs.
I should have sat either fastball or forkball. But I usually don’t “sit” on anything. I just try to identify every pitch out of every pitcher’s hand. But Donaldson is the hardest one to do that against.

Have you ever seen or played the game called “Whack a mole” at an arcade? You’re standing there with this mallet and these pesky little creatures pop up from the machine and you gotta ‘whack’ them on the head before they poke their little heads back in. It starts out easy and then in a few moments you find yourself swinging at everything while they just continue to pop in and out, eluding your repeated blows until the game is over….but…what if there were five of your buddies standing there with you, each with their own mallet and each with their assigned hole? Wouldn’t be as hard would it? You would only be responsible for watching one opening and everytime it even thought about popping it’s derelict little head out….WHACK!!!
Oh there it is again…WHACK!!! See how much easier?
This is analogous to sitting on that forkball. You’re watching for one thing only and when it arrives you’re ready for it! Now, take this info and put it into practice. You’ve already stated that your current strategy isn’t panning out so what have ya got to lose? Ignore the other pitches completely…watch the ball out of the hand and set your timing to it. I promise it works

man i am completely getting hosed on HoF difficulty in ranked seasons
it's fine against the computer in conquest with weaker pitching but this is absolutely not fun and i'm not sure i want to put as much time into all star being fun (years) as HoF
i have the kontrol freek but i'm considering getting precision rings as well
feel free to ignore this post, just ranting

But of course when I use Donaldson my opponent somehow hits everything including the forkball.
