Mickey Mantle Price Projection as Set 1 Ends
-
Overall struggling with Mantle at the plate. Only hitting .190 after 80 games but love the switch hitting and the absolute eliteness in the outfield. I know he’s clearly a force to be reckoned with but I just can’t get consistency out of him at the plate. Some players I can absolutely stroke it with are players like 99 Brantley and 99 Harper and the 99 Altuve. It’s definitely player specific swing type that is messing with me.
As much as I hate to say it I think it would overall benefit me to sell him. He’s selling for 411,000 stubs at this moment and I have zero clue how this market is going to go as set 1 ends overall and Set 2 coming up in just two weeks.
I feel like I can get a pretty solid “cheap” replacement for him at CF (Sizemore) or someone who has a secondary position in the outfield. Would love to get the 99 Nolan Ryan as I can’t seem to touch him when I face him. And would easily be able to afford him if I sold Mickey. Idk. “Tough” decisions to be made.
My entire active roster is set 2 besides the core 99 Jeter and most likely will use my wild card on season 1 switch hitting Posada.
His price currently is about as high as it’s ever been and wondering if it’s time to pull the trigger and sell or wait a week as set 1 gets closer to ending. But like I said I have zero idea how this market is going to react as set 1 expires. Part of me feels like he goes even more up in price as players are expiring and he’s basically the best (most expensive) player in the game.
How do y’all think his price will move Over the next week or two? Or just as clueless as me? Thanks for any input.

You should try 99 Jazz in Center. He’s been great for me.

I would sell now if i were you. I also have mantle but im .300 w him it is difficult to hit with him but his defense saves runs

Incognito Mantle is set 2. So he should be good even when set 3 drops. Am I missing something?

Considering this is the 2nd post you’ve made about how bad your are with him, I’d suggest just selling and moving on. You can find the elite defense with someone else and what’s so good about his switch hitting if you’re hitting .190 with him?
Way too expensive of a card to be struggling that bad with him.

You could sell him and buy an entire fleet of OFs to replace him. He’s going for 445K right now, so that could get you FS Corbin Carroll, Rickey, Mays, Griffey, WBC Trout, Jim Edmonds, and Harper, and you’d still have stubs left over. One of those dudes is going to have to hit better than .190, right?
Also, after we had a ton of million-stub cards (with huge waiting lists!) back in 2021, SDS made sure they didn’t let that happen again last year. I don’t think they are interested in letting cards reach a million stubs this early in the game cycle. So while he could still increase in value, I don’t think you’re leaving hundreds of thousands of stubs on the table by selling now.

He sucks for you offensively so sell him now just in case he drops. He’s hitting so bad you can play any good fielder out there and produce what he’s producing which is nothing.

I’m back and forth about keeping him, amazing attributes switch hitter with 99 speed but does seem underwhelming. My other two outfielders are Sosa and Aaron, might just plug nootbar in and sell Mickey.
