There's the wildcard option though you only get one. I'm assuming we get a better Griffey Jr card later on anyway.
Well consider I also just unlocked Chipper.....
And if they're just going to release multiples of certain players; why bother earning these?
I hate to sound like a Debbie Downer; but realizing that WBC cards, that will NEVER make my lineup, are actually Core cards compared to ones (Chipper and Griffey) that will make my lineup and are Set 1s; kind of makes me not want to even bother with the game until all the seasons are over and just go for who I want in that lineup.
I know this has been discussed and mentioned numerous times on this board; but it just hit me now.
To think all the work out in to obtain these cards will be neglected when new sets are eventually released.
Kind of like how they wanted the Captain Series to make the LS cards more relevant; but why would you play with a LS Trout, other than he's a Core card, when a better and cheaper version is available.
I'm trying to think of a positive way to spin this; but I can't right now.

I'm pretty sure 90+ cards that aren't live series or live series collection rewards are set cards, and everything 89 and lower is core. Like it or not, SDS wants you to swap out top tier cards at regular intervals while leaving the slightly lower tier cards available year round for team builds. I don't think they would be able to make it work if all of the gold and low tier flashback and legends were also set cards.

Went in to the Set 1 Collection to see how much further I made it and was surprised to see that I'm only at 142 cards.
Thought that was weird because I unlocked some of the BR players only to find out that the Silver, Gold, and Diamond players are Core players.
But the Flawless Diamonds are Set players.
Really?
So, even if I do get Griffey; I can't use him, other than my WC spot, after Set 3 drops (until I'm assuming late in the year) for anything online?
Why even bother.
You can use him after set 3 drops, but he won’t count towards later programs; that’s how I understand it. So if you play RS for the fun of it and not towards a goal, have at it. We’ll have to see, but it would be illogical and the stupidest of ideas to deactivate a card.

You can use these cards in mini seasons I believe and offline. I am not sure about RS as I think this will be part of the seasons and you would need new cards in season 3. At least you will get use out of them in 2 seasons.

Well, that would be quite dumb and disappointing. The whole point of RS as opposed to BR or Events is to have freedom with your lineups...

I have not seen anything saying we can use cards outside of season requirements, other than one WC, for modes like RS. There will be some offline content that does not have the requirements, but RS will be the main one with the requirements. This year they have taken that freedom away. Start of the year and end of the year will have more freedom, but once season three hits it goes away.

Man, my checklist of "buy" vs don't "buy" is getting heavy in the column on the right.

@yankblan_PSN @RaysBraves_PSN my issue is that all the rewards, so far, for online play (minus the low end ones) after tied to the current Set.
-
Forgot to mention, but if this is true, it contradicts their edict of play as you want to play and reinforces the complaints about lack of lineup variety.

some of these set 1 cards will probably be useful for collections later on, i could imagine they'll probably add collections for other series of cards that will be core cards, like mccutchen, brett etc. last yeat.

It doesn't really matter under this format, unless you want outdated cards late in the year. First reason is... set 3 is a long time from now. Second reason... look at all the names with 97+ already, and set 1 still going... we will be recycling players all year or else they will be running out of content soon. Griffey will likely get a 99 each set anyways. So once you get your Griffey in set 2... you won't need the set 1 Griffey in set 3.

I'd imagine after season 3 there will be an unrestricted forever season

If you use the Search function in the Marketplace; it goes up to Set 6.
