Its getting really bothering hopping on here and always seeing the "high 99's".To me the number overall of a card has never mattered in MLB. How many people would use a 99 Robin Yount or 99 Catfish Hunter over a 93 Ketel Marte or a 94 Burnes ? not many because the overall doesn't make the card, its what the card features that does. What a good comparison would be this year, using Catfish again as an example his 95 is no where near better then lets say Captain series Corbin Burnes who is a 92 ovr. Point is just because a card says 99 doesn't mean its auto to be the best card out there, last year the second half 93 Marte was one of the best cards in the entire game. You're all entitled to your own opinion but this game isn't like madden or 2k, it's not plug in play and overall takes over, especially on the higher ladder of ranked, thats my rant for the day. Have a great one.

High OVR cards don't matter at all but, speaking for myself, there was an excitement factor with previous iterations of the game seeing 95 OVR POTM cards when there was only a sprinkling of such cards available.
Now, they could throw out a 99 OVR card and my excitement factor of thinking I need it on my team is gone.
I'm not bashing the direction they have taken this year as, frankly speaking, I applaud them bucking conventional wisdom and trying something different. Just for myself, the wow factor is no present so content drops for me are "just another day".
The content related only thing right now getting my juices going are update days and finding out if my gambles will pay off.

Meanwhile there's another thread where people are complaining about people having full 99 squads... is it oochie wally or is it one mic?
why can't people work on their teams and use the cards that they want to use... if I'm not winning a game, I'm looking at where I can improve my play and take a look at the cards I don't perform well with and try another card in that spot... and just to keep it on topic with OP, the overall DEFINITELY doesn't matter... that 99 Lee Smith is yikes! (bad yikes, not good yikes!)

Absolutely love the jay-z going at nas reference!
Even though Nas is my number 1

if ratings don't matter then why don't people use the lower rated cards of people? If you Have a 99 a 92 and a 88 for let's just say Bernie Williams and ratings truly don't matter then why would no one use the 88 over the 99?
Also why aren't the best players using teams full of golds and silvers? I've literally never seen any youtube video where it says I'm playing against a top ten player and they are using low rated cards.Granted I don't have a dog in this fight as you couldn't pay me to play this game in an online mode. But to try and say ratings don't matter is just plain being dishonest. Yes some 99's aren't considered good cards especially pitchers who have bad or limited pitch selections, but that doesn't justify lying and saying card ratings don't matter.

these guys complaining about too many 99, last year it was people crying there wasn't enough 99 early on. Cant please everyone. it's all arbitrary anyway, if everyone has 89's or if everyone has 99's, the gameplay would be the same matchup-wise with P and Hitters.

Best cards in the game currently are 99’s. 99 Tatis , 99 Realmuto , 99 Sasaki , and so on. Those 95’s and 92’s you mentioned can’t even be in the same conversation. 92 burns is far far more hittable than 99 Sasaki. 99 Tatis and 99 Griffey are far superior to the 97 Simeon and 95 Luis Robert. I’m not one of the people that cares honestly , but to say the cards overall doesn’t matter is just plain silly.
