Babe and Chipper are end-game cards, but there will be others. Both play stacked positions, too.

Tre's an end-game card, too, for most.

    Don't know about Pedro.

Do NOT do exchanges. It's been nerfed to near uselessness. I also don't know why people would do moments if they hate moments -- they're worth a total of 5K xp in the program. I hardly did any...

question guys - aren't all of these cards useless once we hit Set 3? minus the wild card?

Babe, Chipper, Trea, Pedro are all guys I would love to use all year long, but they are just set 1 and I already plan to use JT’s WBC for my wildcard. Otherwise locking in would be no question. I’m sure I will do it regardless.

No card is useless. No idea where you get that from.

He got it from the fact that once we're on Set 3, Set 1 cards can't be used in many DD modes. Except for a single Wild Card slot. So if you're playing vs. CPU in DD, then sure, no card is useless. Or if you're assuming massive cross-set collections will be dropped later on, then sure, no card is useless. But I'm pretty sure he was talking about using the cards in RS, etc.

For me it is more about having the card even after Set 1...and I can't imagine SDS would make these useless...more than just one wildcard...but we will see

There is factually NOT "more than one wildcard,." But we WILL see, since that slot will only be needed when Set 3 is active...

You can still collect them to get the rewards.

The point they are making is that the cards you collect and the rewards are all Set 1. Once season two is done there will be a period of time where your hands are tied with how much use you can get out of Set 1 cards. There has been no indicator from SDS on when Set 1 will be active again once season 3 starts. So, if you get all three of the rewards, the most you can use for a portion of the year is one of them.

Simplified version-for some people, locking in that many cards is not worth it for rewards that are Set 1.

Which are? More set 1 cards.

Ultimately, if you haven't finished LS collection, do the set collection until you get the one guy you will use as a WC later in the year. Keep going if you want. And know that set cards will still be usable for a loooooooooong time before set 3 drops.

Also, I assume that SDS will have events and things during set 3 when set 1 cards will be used again. Maybe a new MS, Conquest maps, etc. I'd be surprised if RS doesn't stick to the schedule though.

Stubs are generally not an issue for me but that's a ton of stubs to lock in for these Set 1 collection cards.

I wish I could say that Stubs were not an issue for me but as someone who just plays and does not invest/flip cards stubs seem hard to come by.

My only goal every year as far as collecting goes is get all the best Cardinal players I can. I already Picked up Edmonds and Walker (luckily when he was at around 85K) and that wiped me out. Since then I have earned just over 60K but need 200K just to get Arenado and Goldschmidt's live series so that I can then get a 94 Musial Captain card (he'd be my third best outfielder at that point).

Then there is 99 Wainwright who is going for around 130K.

So 330k to get 3 players, one of whom is set 1 and has a couple months of usefulness and the other two are live and currently have better versions in the WBC program.

It's really killing some of my motivation.

I am not going to hold my breath for that. The whole incentive is to keep you buying overpriced 99's with limited lifespans. I can see Ruth, Gehrig, Chipper, etc getting new 99 cards every time their current card is no longer viable for the current season.

I hope there is something other than just re-running the USA conquest map over and over again when we want to use these cards.

I'm thinking you are not getting what I was referring to. What i meant was that other than just having them usable in 1 avenue (via the wildcard) I think SDS would make prior set cards useful in additional ways. I see no way SDS has us invest that much into these cards only to make them useless except for being able to use one as a wildcard. If that turns out to be the case no one is going to collect much for set 2 and then 3 and that hurts SDS

i simply cannot see that happening. With no incentive to complete these large set collections beyond 2 months or so, SDS stands to lose a lot of in-game revenue from stub purchases, etc because people will not attempt to do these collections only to use the top cards from that set for a couple of weeks. It's just a terrible business model

There’s going to be a massive collection where you’ll need all the Chippers, Babes, Pedros from all the sets from now until after the World Series. Think Mantle last year…If you’re not interested in that then in no way should you be collecting cards & not selling them. Especially for only being able to use them for 2+ months.
