Re: Quality of Life Improvements and Other Things I’d Like to See
I wanted to bring this back up to show areas still in need of improvement and areas that have been improved upon by SDS in the last year. I believe this post (link above) captures most of the major grievances players had for the ranked co-op mode in mlb the show 22.

We still cannot pick more than 6 fielders and 6 pitchers in both 2v2 and 3v3. I feel this should be remedied and people should be able to control their teams. We don’t need to pick every player on the team, but our starting 9/10 is the least we should be able to do. I think the extra player in 2v2 (if each picks 4 hitters/fielders) could be a “wild” card designation to go with this year’s theme and anyone from either player can go here. For a 3v3 this is even easier - 3 players for each person (which is already players do in 2v2 matches).
-
I agree with this sentiment and it is not changed. Just today a group quit on a 2v2 game before we even started because we took too long changing the automatically set lineup.
-
I don’t disagree with this statement, but I do think part of the fun of co-op is playing with players that each individual has earned. This has not been changed in 23.

I believe that there is something akin to this via the rating system this year. I’m not sure how it would work otherwise as you’d have to lock players out of playing with each other if the rank discrepancy is too high like other competitive games. It would prevent friends from being able to play with each other and that’s not fun.

This was in the tech test, not in actual release. This should be in the game. I don’t see any reasons it’s not. Pxp is earned on players regardless on if you own them or not in every other game mode except for moments. You do get rank up rewards in the competitive area if you win enough, but that’s about it. It’s still fun, but rewards would make it even more fun.
Past here I think we get into co-op adjacent modes not necessarily directly related to ranked co-op modes so I’ve separated them.

Agree with the sentiment, not sure if this is in the game for offline mode. I could have sworn I did this last year, but it may only be available via couch-co-op. Would be cool to have this though since all the capability is there.

Not in the game, not only for DD, but franchise mode as well. The way it might work in DD is just mini-seasons, but player populated. In franchise this could work like it used to in mlb 2k12, where you can start with players or do a full draft of you wanted to. Would be even better now that they’ve added the specialty modes (like lefty only)

This is in the game. Really cool feature, glad it has been implemented.
Some great improvements have been made, pat on the back to SDS for beginning to bring the mode in line with other ranked games, but I think there is still more to be done. Biggest ones to be remedied (imho) are 1 & 5. 2 would be a great QOL change.

I’ve played around 6 co-op games so far, and so far it is a huge improvement… except for a few issues that I have no idea why they haven’t been fixed/changed yet.

Why why why why cannot we not pick our whole team? Especially with the changes made this year, it is so easy to get Diamond players. And if you are playing ranked, you most likely are going to have cards that are competitive. We are playing a ranked game. We should be able to select every single player on the roster, bench included. I just went back and watched the DD feature premiere, and they made such a big deal about being able to make your team the way you want, except you can’t really do that in ranked co-op.

We absolutely need to adjust our lineup BEFORE we start searching for a match. Especially since the game decides who is playing at what position for you, the batting order, and which predetermined full cards that you don’t get to pick are in your lineup. It would save everybody a whole lot of time if we just had this option either during or right after the player selection and THEN you can find a match.

We need PXP earned in ranked co-op as well as progress towards other missions. The time some people have available to play the game is limited. So those of us who focus 90% of their MLB 23 time are severely handicapped when it comes to progressing through other programs that require PXP, hits, home runs, strikeouts, etc.
Overall though, it is very nice to see co-op in a much better place. They just need to make it more customizable by allowing us to pick out ENTIRE roster, edit player positions and batting order before searching for a match, and allow PXP and mission progress.

There is definitely more to be done, but I think the improvements are great with the actual rewards. I do think co op should definitely have a separate reward path form ranked seasons. They need to stop letting people use starters out of the bullpen every game. Stability is the biggest thing, but I think that comes in time. It is only the second year of co op, so I think we will see more every year. Eventually I would like to see true clans or squads with uniforms, players stats, etc.
