Sports Game Of The Year (2022)

This game is the biggest piece of [censored] out there lol. Of course it didn’t win. I hope they do us a favor and sell the rights to a worthy company.

Good grief. I can sort of understand the people who gripe about the game yet play it anyway… in April. If you hate the game this much but you’re still wasting your life whinebabying on the forums in January, then, my man, you got some things to work through.

The thing is to me is that this game is un-hatable, if that's a word. Sure it made me want to throw things, like controllers
We all have.
People just want perfection out of their games. They'll never get it. Others just want to hate.
All things aside, it was fun. At least as an offline player. It is fun and is my favorite sports game of the year, regardless. Scoring runs and hitting homers, and striking suckas out is fun. My biggest gripe is I didn't- and still haven't - pulled Trout in '22 -
"There was a split vote last year between the staff and community as the community did give the award to MLB The Show, but this year there was no such dispute. By an overwhelming margin, NBA 2K23 also won the community vote for Best Sports Game in 2022. NBA 2K23 got 41 percent of the vote, and MLB The Show 22 came in second with 24 percent of the vote. With our staff vote, MLB The Show probably would have ended up third behind F1 22. The Show took steps back this year in the community because some soured on gameplay a bit more than usual, still didn’t love the direction of Road to the Show, and because franchise mode still hasn’t found worthwhile ways to win over folks who miss carryover saves."
They summed it up pretty well.

NBA2K easily MyEra hands down one of the best modes out there

Road to the show and franchise makes up almost half of the game content and SDS put literally zero visible effort into either one of these modes. I have no idea what these people are thinking as game developers.

Diamond Dynasty = microtransactions = $$$$ in their pockets.
In their eyes $$$ > quality of content.

I was hoping they would have more honor to their craft and their patrons than that. I'm realizing that when it comes to this game, honor doesn't really mean a lot.

The Grinding that is necessary to unlock cards is maddening and feels like Homework/Taxes.
I just wanted to play DD with my favorite players and unfortunately they are behind a grind.
When my wife said recently
“So you are playing with Troy Glaus because you need Sheffield to unlock 99 Mantle. Well…when she put it like that.Back to franchise because at the end of the day I just want to play 9 enjoyable innings.

The grind is just what it says... A grind. It's a carrot on a stick. If the game were any good, the grind wouldn't matter and it would just be another aspect of the game.
I'm not knocking diamond dynasty where people are grinding to get their cards. But what I want for myself is a fun way to play some baseball for 9 innings, like you said.
I want the offline modes to be satisfying and the game in general needs to be about more than diamond dynasty.

The grind is fine. As a card mode, DD is very user-friendly -- meaning, you don't have to spend $ if you'd rather spend time.
The problem with the game is that DD itself has gotten stale. That's after SDS has ignored/neglected RTTS and Franchise modes. Hell, even MADDEN has tried to improve its franchise mode in the past 2 years. It's much better than it was a few years ago (though still not great).
Sports games peaked with NCAA 09 or around then, and the Madden that had mini-games to improve ratings. Franchise modes had depth, and NCAA's dynasty mode was the best.
We all suffer under the tyranny of card-collecting modes now.

I remember MVP Baseball had the batting practice arcade where you had to hit fixed and moveable targets. That was really fun!

I liked the Extreme HRD stadiums in Triple Play, before they became MVP Baseball.
I loved the living room one with the seagull in the cage, and the Medieval one as well. -
MVP Baseball on the p/c was second to none. The mods and rosters were out of this world!!
