Sliders for real

Is there a way I can turn down the “cpu mount a comeback in the 5th inning” slider?
I’m actually serious. Can I turn down the cpu foul frequency, cpu solid hits, etc?
From within a game settings menu, I see all these sliders.
I’m just getting frustrated with how I have to grind out every run I score with about 5-6 hits while the cpu seems to just decide around the 5th inning that my pitcher needs to miss his spot a bunch and get into a jam.
Do these in game sliders do anything?

Seriously just lost a game to the cpu in franchise mode. I scored two runs on 9 hits and lined out 5 or 6 times.
The cpu seems to be much different than in DD mode.
I’m honestly kind of amazed.

The teams are more evenly matched.DD was like that at the beginning, until the teams started greatly outmatching the cpu teams.

Hmm. So you’re saying if I do a conquest game with a team like my franchise squad, it will play like this?
Latest game I scored 5 runs on 14 hits with numerous lineouts and double plays…
-
I think what I am taking from the lack of response here is that nobody is playing franchise mode anymore.
I can see why. I’m currently going into extra innings vs the cpu Yankees. The cpu has 0 runs on 1 hit. I have 0 runs on 11 hits.

@halfbutt - just curious what level you're playing on and what game style (simulation or competitive) are you using.
I'm playing Legend and simulation and so far I have an 8-2 record but I have the lowest batting average in the entire league. It's very weird.
Oh and what interfaces are you using?
-
I started out on all star (competitive) and after a few games went down to veteran. I use zone and pinpoint.
I still win the vast majority of games I play, but I just accept that at some point there will be a ten plus pitch at bat by the cpu with some random player, and I’m going to hit into three double plays per game.

Play a few seasons and see how it turns out. What I'm reading from the op is that he wins most of his games but he doesn't win all of them so there must be some kind of problem with the gameplay.

That’s sort of a radical oversimplification. lol.
What I am saying is the gameplay in Franchise mode seems significantly different than DD.
Maybe this is because I don’t often play full nine inning games vs the cpu on veteran. Generally I play ranked in the 4-500’s and BR/events. The only vs cpu modes I play are very occasional conquest games.
By different, I mean heavily manipulated.

Yes, the 10 plus pitch at bat happens on Legend too, but I also do it the cpu pitcher because it's much harder to make solid contact and good timing on Legend. It helps wear him out sooner and I can get to the bullpen earlier. It's kinda real baseball, but I get what you're saying that it doesn't feel organic in this game for some reason.
You should also start expanding the zone and I mean expanding where the shaded circle around the ball is out of the zone. You should do it more often too. 0-1 0-2 1-2 and even 2-2. On Legend, I'll throw out of the zone on 3-2 to some batters. If you were to move up in difficulty you'll notice the higher you go the CPU pitchers throw more pitches out of the zone. They're trying to stay on the edges as much as possible and they'd rather leave one outside than over the middle. It is how current baseball is played
As far as GIDP. You have try some hit and runs. If you're using the Hybrid presentation you'll see your manager give some signs when it's a good time to do so.
I would move up to AllStar and trying pitching around guys when the cpu starts hitting. Also, if you're pitcher is tired or lacking confidence in his pitches, the cpu will start pitching.
One more thing... I don't think it's going to make a difference with the problems you're having, but I think "competitive" is more for online play and "simulation" is more for Franchise.

Thanks for the reply.
I have noticed that in the current version of the game, even on the lowest difficulties, the cpu is very stingy with pitches to hit.The only real difference seems to be pitch speed and pci size.
I’ve had some interesting games playing my AA and AAA squads. Generally, I hate to work counts playing the cpu, but it seems to be a requirement to score.

This is all really good advice.
I only play franchise on all star level and tend to win most of the time. I have turned down the sliders for foul balls to 1 since I don't care about XP, or DD related stuff. Even then, I sometimes have to deal with a lot of fouloffs.
I try to play as though it's a real game, meaning working counts, hit and runs, bunts, pitch tunneling, etc and the game responds well to real world strategy and it feels pretty accurate to me. I don't tend to just swing the bat (which is why I use directional hitting) or just throw a pitch (which is why I study pitch tunneling) without thinking about what I want to do. I haven't noticed any 5th inning comebacks by the CPU. It might be worth noting that those are the innings where your pitchers are getting tired and you may need to focus a bit more.
The fact that I can treat the game like real baseball is the only reason I play it at all.
-
I get that the 5th inning “is when my pitcher is starting to tire” but it would be great if my pitcher had at least thrown enough pitches to warrant this.
IMO, the gameplay is kinda clunky. It feels super arbitrary. I have no problem “focussing a bit more” but I’d like the game to match outcomes with my input more, not just decide that my pitches are more likely to miss because it is the 5th inning.
Similarly, if I put a good swing on a first pitch fastball, I’d like it to not go straight at a fielder 8/10 times.
It’s silly that to get good results I often have to look at hittable pitches early in the count in the name of “realism”.
-
Well I hope you find a solution to your problem. I honestly think you should practice a different approach to playing rather than trying to find a slider setting to fix a problem that I personally don't see being there. But that doesn't seem to be something you want to do.
I could be wrong but, I don't think you're going to find what you want in a slider setting. Frustrating lineouts are a part of baseball. Good pitches sometimes get hit out of the park. Good Hits don't always result in good results. And good inputs always = good results has never been a part of baseball in 150 years that it has existed. Consistency over time is what determines who's good and who's not

Less that they are starting to tire, more of 5th or 6th inning is when you go through the lineup for the 3rd time.

I’m not looking for a “solution” to a “problem”.
It’s a video game. I was just curious to see if anyone else found the gameplay in this mode to be frustratingly predictable.
Thanks for your replies in any case.
