Stealing and the Manager
-
My player doesn’t have the best speed- it’s was at a 38 and my manager told me to attempt a steal. I got my lead and got caught. Again, same thing. After the game, I was brought into the office and we talked about how I shouldn’t be stealing bases because I wasn’t fast enough, and I should practice stealing bases.
So I don’t even take an extra lead in any game. Then again, after a few games, my manager tells me to steal a base. I take an extra lead and go. Caught again. Again, pulled into the manager’s office and told to stop trying to steal bases because of my lack of speed, etc. Nowhere is there an option in the answers to say: “Hey, I only steal when you tell me to.”
I think that option needs to be added if I keep being told NOT to steal, and I don’t, and then the Manager TELLS me to steal. Then I get brought into the office and spoken to about NOT stealing. There is clearly something off with that algorithm! Make up your mind- you want me to steal or not!
Anyone else experience this?

I think your manager must be a retired catcher. To him you're Usain Bolt. (I was going to say Carl Lewis, but I'm so old I remember when Colonel Sanders was a lieutenant.)

I’ve had that happen. The manager during the game is disconnected from the manager in the clubhouse presentations. The stealing by the AI is just as stupid with stealing as bunting.

"38 speed" doesn't tell me much... Especially in light of how the game has... issues... displaying stats.
Is that a 38 speed in the "postgame reports", or is that a 38 speed in your circle of the "players on base" diamond (upper right corner, with the instructions on how to advance/lead)
I vaguely remember my manager throwing a few "steal" signs at me when my "postgame" speed was like 34, but 70-something "in the diamond" when actually on base and my gear/archtype/etc. was fully and "accurately" tabulated.
And... because of my "horrible" timing, controller not actually registering my lead inputs, trying to steal against 4-seam fastballs, etc., my stealing percentage is rotten enough to draw that visit to the manager's office...
So I've learned to... ignore... the steal sign until I'm closer to 80 speed "in the diamond". I "rationalize" it as "obfuscation" - manager makes the "steal" sign, nothing happens, enemy team starts to think it's one of his "distraction" moves, next thing is the "faster" players actually nab a steal. -
Another way the game screws you. Has happened to me as well, your exact scenario. Just have to deal with and when he turns his back, give him the finger.

Update- I now have 64 speed (in circle) and can nab a few bases here and there. But the manager picks worse times- Leftie pitcher with 2 outs. I just go when I think it’s a good time now.

I just ignore it when I'm told to steal. I only try stealing on pitchers that have a slow windup.
