Yeah, I think it's a little soon to be anointing him the next Trout. Why would he leapfrog Mookie, Acuna, Ohtani, Tatis, Soto, Degrom and all the other high priced diamonds. I love the kid don't get me wrong. He started super slow like Kelenic and then just made it look easy.
I thought so too, but you see how quickly they made Vladdy Jr a 'gatekeeper' to start this year? He just fell off so much since
-
Guys I'm not saying he's the best in the game, when I say gatekeeper I mean he will exceed 100K to start '23
They jumped Vladdy Jr up after like a year didn't they?

Do you watch baseball? He’s not that elite. I know his HRD card is neat, but let’s not get carried away. He’s a nice player, but he’s not the best player in the game.
Not that elite? Only people in history to do what he has done this far are like Ellis Burks and Barry Bonds.
Yes, I do watch baseball.
You guys are funny.
-
I think he’ll be the cover athlete next year does that mean high diamond? Maybe..vmbut he will be that trout card within the next 2 years….imo

What do you mean? Hit a hr on 3 consecutive tuesdays? Do you think he is the only rookie to ever put up an .800 ops or 137 ops+?

Why, is Mike Trout retiring or something? One bad season is not going to let his card slide. As for JRod, I really hope he does become a great player, but this season isn’t even over yet.
Mike Trout's most recent spinal condition could play a huge part in his value going forward. Could be nothing, could mean a lot of time off and reconditioning..who knows. He's downplaying it currently, so I guess we'll see what happens.
Good point. I have a lot of respect for him as a person. Of course he is an extremely talented ball player. However, like you said, we will see what happens.

I heard that Aaron Judge Guy is pretty good at baseball.
I like Judge. He is a great player - both at the plate and in the field - and he is a class act. He just needs to stay healthy, I don’t want him to turn into another Stanton.
-
I hope Julio Rodriguez does turn into a big star player. I just wouldn’t put a rookie in the same category as established stars. I have seen too many great rookies go on to struggle a season or two later. I’m not saying that will happen, but he has to maintain that level of play even after pitchers/teams have seen him more. I grew up watching Griffey Jr become who he did. These are generational talents. Let’s hope JRod becomes one.
-
Judge was RoY,runnerup MVP(a lot believe ge should have won) set the rookie home run record, ended season a diamond and still was a gold to start the next year.
There is nothing JRod can do to be a diamond next year let alone 90+ or a gatekeeper.( now SDS wil probab have him a dia next year after i said this, but im not wrong) -

Julio is the real deal. If you think he is not one of the best players in the MLB, you haven’t watched him play enough.
He may be that guy someday... great prospect. To say he is one of the best players in base after half of his rookie season is crazy. He's not even putting up godly numbers this year... plenty of rookies have gotten rookie of the year with much better numbers and have never been called the best in baseball by any stretch. If he was batting .350 30 hr 100 rbi maybe you have a case here... but not even close to that kind of production. Last year Wander had better numbers and was that new rookie star... where is he among baseballs best players this year?

Fastest in history to 15 home runs and 20 SB. 81 games, beating the record previously held by Barry Bonds and Ellis Burks.
Fine. You guys don’t watch him. He’s not special. You’ll see.

Yes he's great. And that was an accomplishment. I would say, being better than Ellis Burks doesn't really impress anyone. That Bonds guy was pretty good. I think what most people are saying is, if he continues to play this way this year and next then yes he will become a high diamond. I mean, he just got his first LS diamond Friday so your point is coming true. But I don't think he's immediately the next gatekeeper. Look at Juan Soto. Arguably the best hitter in baseball over the last 4 years and he's still not a gatekeeper.

I think your going off the rails a little bit here. Nobody said he wasn't a special player and he's been impressive. On the other hand nobody who is being realistic is going to tell you he's the best few players in baseball and that's what this thread was about. He's not top 20 in any major stat except SB and that's not what the best player in baseball is doing. He has 18 HR and that's how you guaged his greatness above... well 30 players in the league have more... 40 players have a better OPS and BA... 40 players have more RBI... to be the best you have to prove it, and that doesn't happen in 81 games with his actual numbers. If I was a Mariners fan, I would be overexcited too as there isn't much to be excited about there, but this guy needs to have top numbers types of seasons before anybody can realistically call him one of the best. Look at the last 20 players to win rookie of the year, half of them turned out to be average players. It's easy to hit the league by storm because it takes time for teams to figure out your weaknesses and pitch more accordingly. I think he will eventually be a perennial all star maybe, but I can't see him passing hitters like Judge, Mookie, Trout... ect. There are at least 20 better overall players right now if not more.

What if he is kind of like Ellis Burks. He’d be good right? But not exactly Mike Trout. That’s all I’m saying
-
I am inclined to agree that he will not be the next big gatekeeper type card, as SDS has its own agenda for those types of things.
As to Pscrabro’s comment about 20 better overall players in the league, I think it’s best we just agree to disagree.
I mean, he outhomered Pete Alonso, but hey, there are easily 20 other guys that can do that AND steal 20 bases AND throw a guy out at third from CF with a 99.6mph dart, right?
-
I know you're a Seattle Fan, but LOTS of guys have hot starts to quickly fade away.
Yasiel Puig was one of the top players of a generation, until he wasn't. The list goes on and on, but I don't have the energy to type them all out
